Ice Riddles

November 1, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are many different riddles for kids where the answer is ‘ice’.

These riddles about ice could therefore be used with other riddles based on some of the following themes:

  • Winter
  • Weather
  • Chemistry (or science in general)

The first few of these are riddles that rhyme, then there’s a one liner that might be better suited to older kids as it’s a bit harder (younger kids may not know what an ice pick is).

The final one is part of our What Am I riddles series. To use this one, read the first line of the riddle to your children and have them guess what they think the answer is.

If they don’t guess correctly, read out the second clue and have them guess again. Keep going until they get the right answer (or run out of clues).

Ice Riddles For Kids

Unless you are wearing some gloves
I’m not something you want to hold
Because I’m what’s put in your glass
In order to keep your drink cold

~

Water can come in three forms
But this is its solid state
When wearing special footwear
On it you’re able to skate

~

If you went to Antarctica
You would see a lot of me
I float on top of the water
And am as cold as can be

~

Pick me if you want smaller cubes

~

What Am I?

I’m hard but I’m not a stone
I’m cold but I don’t need a coat
If I get warmed up I change appearance but I’m not popcorn
I get put in drinks but I’m not a straw
I’m made of H20 but I’m not running water

Candy Cane Riddles

October 27, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are several riddles for kids where the answer is candy cane.

These are therefore great for using with many of our other riddle themes:

  • Christmas
  • Food
  • Candy

Most of these are rhyming riddles, although the final one is a What Am I? riddle.

For that one, read the first line to your children and have them guess what they think the item is. If they’re incorrect, read the second line and get them to guess again. Keep going until they work out the answer or run out of clues.

Candy Cane Riddles For Kids

I’m made of two colors
And I look just like a hook
You’ll give me a lick
But I’m not something you cook

~

You might look just like a shepherd
If you hold a big one of me
The stripy colors make it look
As though Canada’s my country

~

I’m usually seen at Christmas
But I’m not a stocking or a bell
I am red and white in color
And shaped a bit like the letter L

~

With red and white stripes
It’s something you lick
Despite it looking
Like a hockey stick

~

What Am I?

I have stripes but I’m not a zebra
I look like a hook but have nothing to do with Peter Pan
I’m normally red and white but I’m not the Canadian flag
I can be eaten but I’m not a strawberry jelly sandwich
I’m minty but I’m the opposite of toothpaste

Turkey Riddles

October 24, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are a number of different turkey riddles for kids.

Most of these are riddles that rhyme, although the final one is a What Am I? riddle.

To use the What Am I one, read out the first line to your kids and get them to guess what they think the answer is.

If they’re not correct, read the second clue to them and have them guess again. Keep going until they either get the correct answer or they run out of clues.

These riddles about turkeys would work well with riddles from many of our other themes:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Fall
  • Food
  • Animals
  • Birds
  • Farm
  • Nature

And if you’re planning Thanksgiving activities for your kids, be sure to check out our sister site for loads of Thanksgiving scavenger hunt ideas.

Beneath this list is a slideshow of turkey-themed items – costumes, toys, books and more that might make great prizes for Thanksgiving games.

Turkey Riddles For Kids

Turkey Riddles For Kids

It is time for Thanksgiving
I don’t know if you’d heard
Which means it’s time to gobble
This very tasty bird

~

It sounds just like a country
But we eat it at dinner
If you can work this one out
Then you’re a riddle winner

~

There’s lots of me at Thanksgiving
But you don’t want me to be wasted
Because my meat’s really juicy
Just so long as I have been basted

~

What Am I?

I’m sometimes seen when bowling but I’m not a ball
I’m something that gets roasted but I’m not coffee
I’m a food that sounds like I’m named after a country but I’m not Chile
I can be made into bacon but I’m not a pig
I’m eaten at Thanksgiving but I’m not candied yams

~

Turkey Prizes

As mentioned above, here are all kinds of items that make great prizes for Thanksgiving games:

Cauldron Riddles

October 23, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are several riddles for kids that have the answer ‘cauldron’.

These can therefore be used with many different types of other riddle themes, such as:

  • Witches
  • Magic
  • Halloween

The first few riddles rhyme, while the final one asks the question What Am I?

To use the last riddle, read the first line of it to your children and have them guess what they think the item is.

If they guess incorrectly, read out the second clue and get them to guess again. Keep going until your kids either work out that the answer is cauldron or they run out of clues.

Eye of newt and toe of frog
Wool of bat? Just a spot
These are all what witches brew
Inside this big black pot

~

If you were a wicked witch
Wanting to cast a spell on a royal
You would need this big black pot
And lots of animal parts to boil

~

Every witch needs one of these
If she is to cast a spell
It’s what she makes her brew in
That gives off an awful smell

~

What Am I?

I’m black but I’m not a puma
I’m made of metal but I’m not a gun
I’m placed over fire but I’m not a grill
I have things brewed in me but I’m not a coffee pot
I’m used by witches but I’m not a broomstick

Tombstone Riddles

October 23, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are a number of different riddles for kids that have an answer of ‘tombstone’.

These are therefore great for using when putting together a collection of riddles that have a scary theme or when planning a Halloween party.

The first three are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘tombstone’ completing the rhyme on the third one.

The set is then rounded off with a What Am I riddle. To use this one, read the first line to your kids and have them guess what they think the item is.

If they don’t get it right, read the second clue and have them guess again. Keep going until they’ve managed to guess correctly or they run out of clues.

Tombstone Riddles For Kids

If you ever happen to see one of these etched
With your name, birth year and a future date
You might want to be worried that there is someone
Who knows when it is you’ll meet your fate

~

There are hundreds of these in a graveyard
But dead bodies it is not
It’s what contains all the info as to
Who’s in each burial plot

~

If you’re by yourself in a graveyard
And you suddenly hear a moan
Just hope you don’t see a zombie’s arm
Coming out from under a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have writing on me but I’m not a newspaper
I mark a spot but I’m not a treasure map
I have names and dates on me but I’m not a birth certificate
I’m not needed if you’re alive but I’m not a coffin
I can be found in a graveyard but I’m not a bunch of flowers
