Carrot Riddles

March 19, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re currently running a series of riddles for kids with a food theme, with today’s bunch having an answer of ‘carrots.’

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks What Am I?

To use the final idea, read the first line to your child and see if they can guess the right answer. If not, read them the second clue and have them guess again.

Keep going until they realize that you’re describing a carrot or until they run out of clues.

Buying this vegetable
Doesn’t cost much money
It is the favorite food
Of the great Bugs Bunny

~

A scarf’s around a snowman’s neck
Each eye is a coal or pebble
He has two branches for his arms
And his nose is this vegetable

~

You can drink this vegetable juice
But it is not a tomato
It’s something which can be peeled
But it is not a potato

~

I am orange and long
And I come in a bunch
I can be in a cake
Or be eaten at lunch

~

Rabbits like to eat me
When I grow in a field
This orange vegetable
Tastes best when it is peeled

~

What Am I?

I’m sometimes a baby but I don’t cry
I can be a type of cake but I’m not chocolate
I’m a vegetable but I’m not broccoli
I can be peeled but I’m not a potato
I’m orange but I’m not an orange
I’m found on a snowman but I’m not a scarf

Cookie Riddles

March 17, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Continuing with our series of food riddles, here are some where the answer is ‘cookie’.

Three of these rhyme, while the fourth is a What Am I? riddle.

To use the last one, have your kids read the first clue and guess what they think is being described. If they’re incorrect, have them read the second line and guess again.

Keep going until they either work out that the answer is ‘cookie’ or until they run out of clues.

I am sometimes made of sugar
And sometimes of oatmeal
Chocolate chip ones taste so good
You might find that you squeal!

~

Some people prefer them with raisins
Some like them to contain chocolate chips
Whichever kind of these you like though
They don’t last long once they’ve passed your lips

~

You can buy these snacks pre-baked
Or you can buy them as dough
Which are then baked by yourself
Unless you eat them raw though

~

What Am I?

I’m round but I’m not a wheel
I’m loved by a monster but I’m not the Bride of Frankenstein
I sometimes contain chips but I’m not a computer
I go well with milk but I’m not a bowl of cereal
I’m made of dough but I’m not a loaf of bread

Orange Riddles

March 12, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re starting a new series of riddles this week where the answers will be different types of food.

Today’s set has several where the answer is ‘orange.’ In addition to these being good to use with our other food riddles, they could also be used with our other ideas that are based on different fruits and colors.

The first four of these rhyme, while the final one is a What Am I? riddle. To use that, read the first line of it to your kids and get them to guess what they think the answer is.

If they’re not correct, read them the second line and have them guess again. Keep going until they either work out that you’re describing the word orange or they run out of clues.

This is a fruit that
You might be fed
You just need to mix
Yellow and red

~

You might sometimes see this color
On the feathers of a parrot
It is the name of a fruit and
The same color as a carrot

~

Violet, red, blue and green
Yellow and indigo
What’s the other color
You’d find in a rainbow?

~

This is a type of fruit
But it is not a lime
There are no other words
With which this word can rhyme

~

What Am I?

I grow on trees but I’m not a leaf
I’m spherical but I’m not a soccer ball
I provide juice but I’m not an apple
I’m sometimes naval but I’m not a sailor
I’m a color but I’m not red

Easter Egg Riddles

March 10, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Continuing our series of Easter riddles, today’s set all have the answer ‘Easter Egg.’

If you’ve found this page and are instead looking for riddles you can use when hiding Easter eggs for your children, our sister site Scavenger Hunt has two sets you can use here and here, complete with free printable clues.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, while the fourth asks What Am I?

To use that final idea, your kids should read the first line and then take a guess at what they think the answer is.

If they’re incorrect, they should read the second clue and take another guess. Keep going until they either work out that the answer is an Easter egg or they run out of clues.

In March or April
These things do abound
A certain bunny
Leaves these on the ground

~

Sometimes these are hollow
And have chocolate inside
Other times they’re real
And you paint their outside

~

When you wake up on Easter Day
It’s always time to hunt for these
Look for these ovals high and low
So climb up and get on your knees

~

What Am I?

I’m colorful but I’m not a rainbow
I’m hunted for but I’m not an animal
I sometimes contain chocolate but I’m not an advent calendar
I have a shell but I’m not a crab
I’m sometimes painted but I’m not hung on a wall
I’m left by a bunny but I’m not the remains of a carrot

Cross Riddles

March 5, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Carrying on with our series of Easter riddles for kids, here are some where the answer is ‘Cross.’

The first four of these rhyme, plus there’s a one line riddle and finally a set of What Am I?? clues.

To use the last riddle, have your kids read the first line and guess what they think the answer is. If they don’t get it right, they should read the second clue and guess again.

Have them keep going until they either work out that the answer is cross or they run out of clues.

6 Cross Riddles For Kids

Cross Riddles For Kids

You would have seen three of these
On the Calvary hillside
One of which carried Jesus
On Good Friday when he died

~

It can look like a T
It can look like an X
They can be found on chains
Hung around people’s necks

~

If you encounter a vampire
Make sure you remember this rule
You can ward them off with garlic
As well as this Christian symbol

~

On Calvary
There were three, not six
It’s also known
As a crucifix

~

I look like the letter t and am a symbol of Christianity

~

What Am I?

I look like a letter of the alphabet but I’m not a hockey stick
I’m often found on a necklace but I’m not a heart
I sound like I’m in a bad mood but I’m not angry
I’m a symbol of Christianity but I’m not a fish
I ward off vampires but I’m not a garlic bulb
