Canada Riddles

September 29, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of country riddles for kids today with five where the answer is Canada.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth asks What Am I?

To use that last riddle, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer. As it could be any country in the northern hemisphere, there’s a good chance that they won’t guess Canada.

If they don’t get the right answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either get the correct answer or run out of clues.

5 Canada Riddles For Kids

Canada Riddles For Kids

This is a very large country
That has a Prime Minister as its chief
Some there speak English, some speak French
And on their flag there’s a red maple leaf

~

In this country most speak English
But you will find that is not all
As there are many who speak French
Like in Quebec and Montreal

~

Things this country is known for:
Its nice people and its geese
Ice hockey and lots of snow
And its Royal Mounted Police

~

I’m a country in the Americas
That receives a lot of snow
Cities include Vancouver and Quebec
Ottawa and Toronto

~

What Am I?

I’m in the northern hemisphere but I’m not France
I have a Prime Minister but I’m not the UK
I’m one of the largest countries in the world but I’m not China
I have a red and white flag but I’m not Japan
I have many people who speak French but I’m not Rwanda

Australia Riddles

September 24, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Our new series of country riddles continues today with four where the answer is Australia.

These riddles for kids are therefore ideal for using with our other geography riddles as well.

The first three of them are rhyming riddles while the fourth asks your children What Am I?

With that final idea, read the first line to your kids and ask them to guess the answer. Knowing that they have to guess a country will help them narrow things down, but it’s unlikely that they’ll guess that the answer is Australia.

If they don’t guess correctly, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to guess again. If they don’t guess correctly on this turn, read them the third clue. Keep doing this until they guess correctly or they run out of clues.

4 Australia Riddles For Kids

What country has great animals
Like a large bird called an emu
A cute and cuddly koala
Or a big hopping kangaroo

~

This country’s capital is Canberra
You might go to Bondi Beach to surf
Go diving at the Great Barrier Reef
And explore Melbourne, Sydney or Perth

~

If you go to the southern hemisphere
Then you should visit this very large country
Where you might see people throwing boomerangs
And koalas eat the eucalyptus tree

~

What Am I?

I’m a country but I’m not Russia
I’m in the southern hemisphere but I’m not Argentina
I’m popular with surfers but I’m not South Africa
I’m surrounded by water but I’m not Madagascar
I’m sometimes called Oz but I don’t have anything to do with wizards

France Riddles

September 22, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re starting a new series of riddles for kids this week, with each set being about a different country – our first batch today is all about France.

These will therefore also work well if you’re planning any activities about geography or teaching any lessons about world awareness.

There are five riddles here that have France as the answer. The first four of them rhyme (the word France completes the rhyme of the first riddle), while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer. Although the clue lets them know that the answer is a country, it’s unlikely that they’ll randomly guess the correct answer.

If they do indeed guess incorrectly, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to guess again. Keep doing this until they either realize that the answer is France or they run out of clues.

In Burgundy they drink wine
In Paris you might dance
Cannes has a film festival
The country is called _ _ _ _ _ _

~

In which European country
Might you eat cheese and baguette
And have “la chat” or “le chien”
If you owned a household pet?

~

I am a country in Europe
Where you can climb the Eiffel Tower
They had many kings called Louis
And Napoleon once had power

~

Champagne comes from this place
And they make cheese called Brie
Their capital’s Paris
But what is the country?

~

What Am I?

I’m a country but I’m not Iceland
I have red, white and blue on my flag but I’m not the USA
I’m in Europe but I’m not the UK
I have a famous tower but I’m not Italy
I have my language spoken in many countries around the world but I’m not Spain

Pencil Riddles

September 17, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of school riddles continues today with six that have pencil as their answer.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the final one asks your kids What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess what they think the answer is.

They might have a hard time thinking of something that’s pink at the end which isn’t lipstick, so if they don’t guess that it’s a pencil, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess.

Keep going until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

6 Pencil Riddles For Kids

Although my center contains lead
It isn’t very tough
And so you need to sharpen it
In order to draw stuff

~

This is an item you use
To write something to be read
You keep it sharp on one end
In the middle there is lead

~

I’m something that you can write with
When I’ve been used I’m not as long
I often have an eraser
In case you write down something wrong

~

I can come in many colors
Like red, yellow, orange, blue or green
When you put my lead on paper
Your drawings or writing can be seen

~

This is a writing instrument
Which you might keep inside of a case
With ones which are mechanical
Push down to have lead come out the base

~

What Am I?

I’m sometimes pink at one end but I’m not lipstick
I can come in many different colors but I’m not a car
I can become blunt but I’m not a knife
I contain lead but I’m not metallic
I’m a writing instrument but I’m not a pen

Ring Binder Riddles

September 15, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of riddles for kids that have a school theme with a few where the answer is a ring binder.

The first couple of these rhyme, with the third asking your children What Am I?

To use that final riddle, read the clue on the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think is being described.

There are many items that might have a plastic cover, so there’s a good chance that they won’t get it with their first guess. If that’s the case, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess that you’re describing a ring binder or they run out of clues.

3 Ring Binder Riddles For Kids

Ring Binder Riddles For Kids

I have a plastic cover
And I have three rings inside
I come in many sizes
Like three or five inches wide

~

One inch, three inch, five inch
Choosing one is not a breeze
Because size can matter
When using one of these

~

What Am I?

I usually have a plastic cover but I’m not a piece of dry cleaning
I come in different sizes but I’m not a bottle
I contain springs but I’m not a bed
I contain rings but I’m not a jewelry store
I hold paper but I’m not a printer
