River Riddles

We’re continuing our series of geography riddles today with five that have the answer ‘river’.

These are therefore also perfect for using with all of our other nature riddles.

The first four of these rhyme, with the fifth being a What Am I riddle. To use that last idea, read the first line to your kids and have them guess the answer.

If they don’t guess that you’re referring to a river that has a source, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again.

Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer is river or they run out of clues.

I sometimes start on mountains
As they can serve as my source
I’m a body of water
Which can flow with lots of force

I can start off in mountains
Which keeps my flow in motion

This is a long body of water
Which has a bank on either side
There’s a great one in Colorado
For a whitewater rafting ride

What Am I?

I have a source but I’m not a journalist
I have a delta but I’m not a Greek alphabet
I have banks on both sides of me but I’m not surrounded by money
I flow but I’m not a bloodstream
I’m full of water but I’m not a fish tank

New York City Riddles

Our series of riddles for kids with a geography theme continues today with six which all have New York City as the answer.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the final one asks your kids What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read them the clue on the first line and ask them to guess what they think the answer is. As the first clue only indicates that the answer is a city, there’s a good chance that they won’t guess correctly.

If they don’t get the correct answer after the first clue, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again. Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer is New York City or they run out of clues.

To get to these by subway?

Which place in the US has five boroughs
Such as Staten Island and Brooklyn?
There is one called The Bronx and one called Queens
And of course don’t forget Manhattan

Mountain Riddles

We’ve been publishing a series of geography riddles for the last few weeks and that continues today with five that all have ‘mountain’ as the answer.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the clue on the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess at the answer. As it’s something which comes in a range, they might answer with something like ‘opinions’.

If they’re incorrect, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to guess again. Keep going until they either work out that the answer is mountain or they run out of clues.

I am something people like to climb
But I’m not a tree with branches
I have lots of snow at my summit

Island Riddles

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, with the last one asking your children What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read the first line to your children and have them guess the answer. As it’s something surrounded by water, they might guess that it’s a castle with a moat, a boat or a floating candle.

If they don’t guess that the answer is an island, read them the second clue and have them guess again. Keep going until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

Volcano Riddles

Our series of geography riddles continues today with six that all have volcano as their answer.

The first five of them are rhyming ones, while the sixth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the clue on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at the answer. As it’s something that produces ash but which isn’t a bonfire, they might guess that it’s a cigarette, BBQ or a fireplace.

If they don’t guess correctly, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep going until they either guess that the answer is volcano or they run out of clues.
