Diamond Riddles

December 8, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We have five riddles for kids today where the answer to each one is diamond.

These therefore go well with our jewelry riddles, while some of them can also be used with our other themes such as sports, shapes and toys.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that last riddle, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer. As it’s something that can be cut, they might suggest grass, fingernails or paper.

If they don’t guess the correct answer, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again. Keep going until they either guess that diamond is the answer or they run out of clues.

I am not a heart
Club or a spade
I’m put on a ring
When it is made

~

On a baseball field
You’ll see a mound
There is also this shape
Batters run around

~

I’m a type of red card
But I am not a heart
Of an engagement ring
I am usually part

~

I am a shape with four sides
But I am not a square
I’m also a type of jewel
Which on a ring you’d wear

~

What Am I?

I can be cut but I’m not a vegetable
I’m found on a baseball field but I’m not grass
I’m found on a ring but I’m not a boxer
I’m in a deck of cards but I’m not a joker
I’m a suit but I’m not an item of clothing

Periodic Table Riddles

December 3, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

For the last couple of months, we’ve been publishing loads of different riddles for kids with a geography theme.

We’re changing things up today with a set based on a different school subject theme. These riddles all have the periodic table as their answer, so could be used with our other chemistry riddles.

The first couple of these rhyme, while the third is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your children and ask them to take a guess at the answer.

As the clue says that it’s something that contains more than 100 things, there’s a good chance that they’re not going to guess that the answer is the periodic table.

If they do guess incorrectly, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess the right answer or they run out of clues.

If you need some other activities to use with one or more of these riddles, check out these periodic table scavenger hunt ideas.

Number one is hydrogen
Twenty-five is manganese
Sodium is eleven
What list contains all of these?

~

This list is very hard to remember
I’d be impressed if you were able
As there’s more than 100 elements
It’s called the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _      _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I contain more than 100 things but I’m not a jigsaw puzzle
I contain metals but I’m not a car
I contain hydrogen and oxygen but I’m not water
I sound like I could be a piece of furniture but I’m not a flower bed
I’m used in chemistry but I’m not a test tube

Map Riddles

December 1, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of geography riddles today with several where the answer is ‘map’.

The first four of them are rhyming riddles, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final What Am I riddle, read the clue on the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As it’s something that shows them where things are, they might guess that it’s a GPS, a metal detector or any number of other items. If they don’t guess that map is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to guess again.

Keep going until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

This shows you the lay of the land
So you know where things can be found
Many of them also show roads
So you know how to get around

~

This used to be on paper
Now you get it on your phone
It can help you find a route
So you don’t get lost and groan

~

You might have one of these of the world
Or a local one with its roads
A globe’s a spherical one of these
While an atlas contains loads

~

This is something a cartographer creates
Hikers use one to follow a trail
It can be used when driving to find your way
Everything on it is drawn to scale

~

What Am I?

I can show you where things are but I’m not a tour guide
I have a scale but I don’t weigh things
I contain roads but I’m not a city
I can be on paper or on a phone but I’m not a shopping list
I can show you what’s north, south, west and east but I’m not a compass

Earthquake Riddles

November 26, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We have another set of geography riddles today with five where earthquake is the answer. These can therefore also be used with our other nature riddles.

The first four of these rhyme, with the word ‘earthquake’ completing the rhyme of the first one, while the fifth asks your children What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the first line to your kids and ask them to take a guess at the answer. As the clue says it’s something that can move things but can’t be seen, they might suggest that it’s a ghost, the Invisible Man or something else.

If they don’t guess that the answer is an earthquake, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that it’s an earthquake or they run out of clues.

Earthquake Riddles For Kids

If you were standing still
And you felt the ground shake
There’s a very good chance
That there was an _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

If you feel one of these
Finding a safe place is a must
As the ground moving is caused
By vibrations in the Earth’s crust

~

When there is a big one of these
You might also feel aftershocks
These seismic waves are caused by faults
And fractures in sections of rocks

~

This natural phenomena
Is caused by tectonic plates moving
It happens along a faultline
The Richter Scale measures this thing

~

What Am I?

I can move things even though I can’t be seen but I’m not the wind
I shake but you can’t drink me
I’m measured on a special scale but I don’t weigh anything
I can knock down buildings but I’m not Godzilla
I’m the result of moving plates but I’m not an empty table
I’m caused by faults but no one has done anything wrong

Earth Riddles

November 12, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of geography riddles for kids today with five where the answer is the planet Earth.

The first four of them rhyme, with the fifth one being a What Am I riddle.

To use the final idea with your children, read them the clue on the first line and ask them to guess what they think the answer is.

As the clue says that it’s something which is a sphere but not a soccer ball, they might suggest a snow globe, a Christmas tree decoration, a jawbreaker or any number of other things.

If they don’t guess the correct answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer is Earth or they run out of clues.

Earth Riddles For Kids

It spins at 1,000 miles per hour
Although it is not a fairground ride
At its center there is a molten core
And it has a crust on its outside

~

71% is water
And the rest of it is land
Some of that is made up of soil
And some of it’s made of sand

~

What’s the name of the planet
Which is third closest to the sun?
In terms of moons that it has
You will find there is only one

~

When looking at the solar system
This planet’s between Venus and Mars
You won’t see any flying saucers
But you can find people in their cars

~

What Am I?

I’m spherical but I’m not a soccer ball
I have a core but I’m not an apple
I have a crust but I’m not a loaf of bread
I have plates but food isn’t served on me
I have a mantle but I’m not a fireplace
I’m mostly covered by water but I’m not an iceberg
