Motorcycle Riddles

March 31, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of transport riddles continues today with five which all have motorcycle as the answer.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your children and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that can be sat on but which isn’t a toilet, they might guess that it’s an armchair, a step or a yoga ball.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a motorcycle, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess. Keep going until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

I am a mode of transport
But I am not very wide
I’ve an engine and two wheels
I’m something you sit astride

~

This has footrests and an engine
Two wheels and also a handlebar
Some are a Harley Davidson
Others a Honda or Yamaha

~

When someone races one of these
You might hear some tire squeals
We’re not talking about cars though
As this only has two wheels

~

This vehicle only has two wheels
But it can get you around with haste
If you’re carrying a passenger
Then they’ll hold you around the waist

~

What Am I?

I can be sat on but I’m not a toilet
I have footrests but I’m not living room furniture
I can be ridden but I’m not a rollercoaster
I have two wheels but I’m not a bicycle
I have an engine but I’m not a car

Bus Riddles

March 29, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing with our series of transport riddles today with five ideas where the answer to each one is a bus.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, with the second one also working well with our other school riddles.

The fifth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue on the first line to your kids and ask them to take a guess at the answer.

As the clue is that it’s something that follows a route but which isn’t a mailman, they might guess that it’s someone delivering papers, an airplane or something else.

If they don’t guess that a bus is the answer, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either guess that the answer is a bus or until they run out of clues.

This vehicle makes frequent stops
So getting to places can be slow
In London they’re usually red
The ones you take to school are yellow

~

This is something that’s yellow
But it’s not a leaf in the fall
It’s a type of vehicle
Which takes you everyday to school

~

I’m a type of public transport
Which follows a certain route
The wheels on me go round and round
Of that there should be no doubt

~

This is a method of transport
It is what is used by Greyhound
According to a well-known song
The wheels on this go round and round

~

What Am I?

I follow a route but I’m not a mailman
I’m red in London but I’m not a telephone box
I’m sometimes yellow in the US but I’m not a taxi
I’m a mode of transport but I’m not a train
I have wheels that go round and round but I’m not a car

Taxi Riddles

March 24, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We recently noticed that many people had been searching our site for transport riddles, but we only had a handful of ideas that they could use.

We’ve therefore decided to make that theme our new series, so we’re starting that today with four riddles where the answer is a taxi.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, while the fourth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer should be. As the clue is that it’s something that’s yellow but which isn’t a flower, they might guess that it’s a school bus, a rubber duck, a banana or a lemon.

If they don’t guess that a taxi is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess based on the additional information. Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer is a taxi or they run out of clues.

If you’re in a city
This is something you might grab
In New York it’s yellow
It’s also known as a cab

~

This is a type of transport
But it’s not one that goes by rail
It’s one that has a meter
To get one you might have to hail

~

In London these are black
In New York they are yellow
You’re charged on a meter
And you tell it where to go

~

What Am I?

I’m sometimes yellow but I’m not a flower
I have a meter but I don’t measure your gas usage
I have a driver but I’m not a golfer
I can be hailed but I don’t fall from the sky
I’m a type of transport but I’m not an airplane

Space Shuttle Riddles

December 15, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Here are four riddles for kids where the answer is a space shuttle. These are therefore perfect for using with all of our other space and transport riddles.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, with the words ‘space shuttle’ completing the rhyme of the third one.

The fourth asks your kids What Am I? To use that one, read the first clue to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As the clue says that it’s something that goes up in the air but which isn’t a balloon, they might guess that it’s a bird, airplane, kite, drone or one of many other things.

If they don’t work out that it’s a space shuttle, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep going until they either realize that space shuttle is the answer or they run out of clues.

If you travel on one of these
An astronaut you must be
As it takes you to outer space
Where there’s zero gravity

~

This is something you will need
To get back from outer space
To launch it you need rockets
Which will move it at great pace

~

You might take a journey in this
Launching at Cape Canaveral
It could take you up to the moon
You would be in a _ _ _ _ _       _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I go up in the air but I’m not a balloon
I have wings but I’m not a bird
I can transport people but I’m not an airplane
I’ve been to the moon but I’m not an astronaut
I’ve sometimes been called Discovery but I’m not a TV channel

London Riddles

November 10, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

For the last few weeks, we’ve been publishing loads of geography riddles that are great for using with kids, no matter whether you’re a parent, teacher, childcare worker or something else.

That series continues today with four rhyming riddles for kids where the answer is London.

These therefore work well with many of our other themes, such as those that are about different cities, buildings and transport.

This city has the river Thames
With the Houses of Parliament close by
It also has Trafalgar Square
And a ferris wheel – The _ _ _ _ _ _ Eye

~

Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral
Big Ben and Westminster Abbey
Which city would you have to visit
If these were things you want to see?

~

To get around this city
You might need a Tube map
And as you get on the train
Be sure to “mind the gap”

~

If you visit this city
Then something you don’t want to miss
Is the Changing Of The Guard
Outside of Buckingham Palace
