Africa Riddles

November 24, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’ve published lots of geography riddles over the last couple of months and that theme continues today with six where the answer is Africa.

These rhyming riddles therefore go well with all of our other riddles for kids about continents, while some of them can also work with our country and city themes.

You could even include them along with some other world awareness games if you’re planning any activities to help your children think about things on a global scale.

And the island of Mauritius?

Desert Riddles

November 19, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

For the last few weeks we’ve been publishing a series of geography riddles which are written especially for kids.

That series continues today with four rhyming riddles that all have desert as their answer.

The first three of them can be used with younger children, while the fourth idea could be better to use with older children who might have heard of those deserts (although younger ones might be able to take a guess because they’ve heard of Sahara).

4 Desert Riddles For Kids

Desert Riddles For Kids

This type of place has a lack of rain
So it is a dry and arid land
The most famous one’s the Sahara
Which is covered in a lot of sand

~

This word goes before ‘island’ to describe
A place where you might be shipwrecked alone
It is a barren area of land
Which might be covered in sand or by stone

~

I’m going to give you a riddle
So let’s see if you can answer this
What has little rain and a lot of sand
Where you’d want to see an oasis?

~

This is an area with little rain
So you’re unlikely to see many trees
Kalahari, Negev, Atacama
Gobi and Sahara – what are all these?

Europe Riddles

November 17, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of geography riddles continues today with four that all have Europe as the answer.

Depending on which one of these you choose to use with your kids, these rhyming riddles could also be used with some of our other themes like cities and countries.

They could all be used with our riddles about different continents as well.

Which has fifty different countries
People living there might be British,
French, German, Polish or Maltese

~

And were to visit Italy

On which continent would you be?

~

When looking at this continent
Some capital cities you might see

London, Paris, Rome and Helsinki

~

I’m a continent of the world
Russia is my largest country
I’m to the north of Africa
And also contain Germany

Earth Riddles

November 12, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of geography riddles for kids today with five where the answer is the planet Earth.

The first four of them rhyme, with the fifth one being a What Am I riddle.

To use the final idea with your children, read them the clue on the first line and ask them to guess what they think the answer is.

As the clue says that it’s something which is a sphere but not a soccer ball, they might suggest a snow globe, a Christmas tree decoration, a jawbreaker or any number of other things.

If they don’t guess the correct answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer is Earth or they run out of clues.

5 Earth Riddles For Kids

Earth Riddles For Kids

It spins at 1,000 miles per hour
Although it is not a fairground ride
At its center there is a molten core
And it has a crust on its outside

~

71% is water
And the rest of it is land
Some of that is made up of soil
And some of it’s made of sand

~

What’s the name of the planet
Which is third closest to the sun?
In terms of moons that it has
You will find there is only one

~

When looking at the solar system
This planet’s between Venus and Mars
You won’t see any flying saucers
But you can find people in their cars

~

What Am I?

I’m spherical but I’m not a soccer ball
I have a core but I’m not an apple
I have a crust but I’m not a loaf of bread
I have plates but food isn’t served on me
I have a mantle but I’m not a fireplace
I’m mostly covered by water but I’m not an iceberg

London Riddles

November 10, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

For the last few weeks, we’ve been publishing loads of geography riddles that are great for using with kids, no matter whether you’re a parent, teacher, childcare worker or something else.

That series continues today with four rhyming riddles for kids where the answer is London.

These therefore work well with many of our other themes, such as those that are about different cities, buildings and transport.

4 London Riddles For Kids

London Riddles For Kids

This city has the river Thames
With the Houses of Parliament close by
It also has Trafalgar Square
And a ferris wheel – The _ _ _ _ _ _ Eye

~

Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral
Big Ben and Westminster Abbey
Which city would you have to visit
If these were things you want to see?

~

To get around this city
You might need a Tube map
And as you get on the train
Be sure to “mind the gap”

~

If you visit this city
Then something you don’t want to miss
Is the Changing Of The Guard
Outside of Buckingham Palace
