Kiwi Fruit Riddles

February 18, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re starting a new series of riddles for kids today, with all of these being different types of fruit. We’re starting off the series today with five that all have kiwi fruit as the answer.

The first four of them rhyme, with the fifth being a What Am I riddle.

To use that fifth idea, read the first clue to your children and ask them to guess what they think the answer is. As the clue is that it’s similar in size to a large egg but isn’t a pebble, they might guess that it’s a paperweight, a hamster or a tomato.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a kiwi fruit, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again. Keep going until they either realize that kiwi fruit is the answer or they run out of clues.

This is a type of small fruit
Which is smaller than your hand
Fuzzy outside, green inside
Often comes from New Zealand

~

This is a type of small fruit
Which is fuzzy on the outside
Cut it open and it’s green
With small black seeds on the inside

~

I am the same size as a large egg
And also a similar shape
I’m a fruit fuzzy on the outside
I’m green inside, I’m not a grape

~

This isn’t a common fruit
But might be one of which you’ve heard
It’s fuzzy on the outside
And has the same name as a bird

~

What Am I?

I’m similar in size to a large egg but I’m not a pebble
I’m fuzzy but I’m not a stuffed toy
I’m green on the inside but I’m not a lawnmower that’s just been used
I have the same name as a type of bird but I’m not a crane
I’m a fruit but I’m not a grape

Gold Riddles

February 16, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of metal riddles today with seven that all have gold as their answer.

Some of these riddles for kids can also be used with several of our other themes, such as those about colors, jewelry and sports.

The first six of them are rhyming riddles, with the seventh asking your children the question What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that is sometimes found in a pot but that isn’t a stew, they might guess that it’s a plant, soup or tea.

If they don’t work out that you’re referring to a pot of gold, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep going until they either work out that the answer is gold or they run out of clues.

Gold Riddles For Kids

It is something very shiny
And is a valuable metal
If you win at the Olympics
It’s the color of your medal

~

I’m sometimes made into a coin
And sometimes into an ingot
When at the end of a rainbow
I am what is inside the pot

~

Some people bite into it
But it is not a carrot
It is a precious metal
That’s pure 24 karat

~

I’m in many types of jewelry
Like the chain of a necklace
In the tale of Rumpelstiltskin
He could spin straw into this

~

If you get this kind of medal
It means that you’ve done the best
I am the kind of coins you find
In a buried treasure chest

~

This has been known to cause a rush
But it’s not a Black Friday sale
It’s a yellow precious metal
Weighed in troy ounces on a scale

~

What Am I?

I’m sometimes found in a pot but I’m not stew
I can be a bar but I’m not soap
I’ve been known to cause a rush but I’m not a Black Friday sale
I’m a type of metal but I’m not tin
I can be a medal but I’m not silver

Silver Riddles

February 11, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of metal riddles is continuing today with six where the answer is silver.

Some of these can also be used with our other chemistry, jewelry and color riddles.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s a color but which isn’t blue, they might guess that it’s red, green, yellow or any number of other colors.

If they don’t guess that the answer is silver, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again. Keep going until they guess the correct answer or they run out of clues.

If you are an athlete
Who is running in a race
It’s the type of medal
Which you get for second place

~

It is a type of metal
That’s sometimes used for a necklace
It’s not gold or copper though
Ag is the symbol for this

~

These are the color of bells
In a famous Christmas song
It’s said clouds have this lining
Even when something is wrong

~

It’s often used in jewelry
As it is a precious metal
If you’re second in a race
It’s the color of your medal

~

This is a type of color
But it’s not yellow or blue
You’ll need this type of bullet
If a werewolf’s after you

~

What Am I?

I’m a color but I’m not blue
I can be a type of lining but I’m not found in clothing
I come before ‘Bells’ in a Christmas song but I’m not Jingle
I’m a type of metal but I’m not copper
I’m a type of medal at the Olympic Games but I’m not gold

Iron Riddles

February 9, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

For the next few sets of riddles, we’re going to be focusing on different types of metal. Today, all of these riddles for kids have iron as the answer.

Although the theme is metal, some of these ideas can also be used with our chemistry or household item riddles.

The first three of these rhyme, with the fourth being a What Am I riddle. To use that last idea, read the clue on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer is.

As the clue is that it’s something which can be used to hit a ball but which isn’t a tennis racket, they might guess that it’s a foot, a baseball bat or a golf club. (n.b. Although the final answer of a golf club is sort of true – an iron is a type of golf club – that’s not the correct answer.)

If they don’t give iron as the answer, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either give the answer ‘iron’ or they run out of clues.

This can be used to flatten clothes
Or in golf to hit a ball
This goes before a movie Man
And is a type of metal

~

If you dropped this on your foot
You would find it really hurts
It’s usually heated up
And is used to flatten shirts

~

This is a common type of metal
With the chemical symbol Fe
When mixed with oxygen and water
You will find that it can get rusty

~

What Am I?

I can be used to hit a ball but I’m not a tennis racket
I come before Man to make a superhero but I’m not a spider
I’m put on shirts but I’m not a necktie
I’m a metal but I’m not gold
I can get rusty but I’m not the Tinman in The Wizard Of Oz

Ring Riddles

February 4, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re publishing some more jewelry riddles for kids today with six that have a ring as their answer.

The first five are rhyming riddles (the word ring completes the rhyme of the fifth riddle), while the sixth asks the question What Am I?

To use that last riddle, read the clue on the first line to your kids and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something round which isn’t a wheel, they might guess that it’s a clock, a coin or a ball.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a ring after you’ve given them the first clue, read them the second clue and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess the right answer or they run out of clues.

6 Ring Riddles For Kids

Ring Riddles For Kids

In boxing I am square
On your finger I am round
I’m inside every tree
I am also a bell’s sound

~

I go around a cloth napkin
And inside a pierced ear
I adorn a married finger
And I’m a bell’s sound you hear

~

They’re something that you count
To tell how much a tree has aged
It’s something that you wear
When you’re in love and get engaged

~

Before you get engaged
In a small box it is carried
It is what gets exchanged
On the day that you get married

~

You will see two of me
When you attend a wedding
I’m not a bride and groom
But what they wear – I’m a _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m round but I’m not a wheel
I’m seen at a wedding but I’m not a cake
I’m often gold but I’m not a medal
I sometimes contain diamonds but I’m not a deck of cards
I can be found on a finger but I’m not a nail
