Mistletoe Riddles

April 21, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re starting a new series today where we’re going to be publishing lots of riddles for kids about different types of plants and flowers.

Today’s collection all have mistletoe as their answer, so these are also perfect for using with our other Christmas riddles.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your children and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something which is hung but which isn’t a picture, they’ll probably guess that it’s a coat or some other item of clothing.

If they don’t guess that the answer is mistletoe after this first clue, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

This is a type of plant
That you might see at Christmas
It’s hung above your head
And beneath it you might kiss

~

This is a green plant you see
Towards the end of the year
And when you stand under it
You might kiss somebody dear

~

I’m a plant seen at Christmas
Which people hang above
And then they stand beneath me
And kiss someone they love

~

When you stand under this, then you will get a kiss

~

What Am I?

I get hung but I’m not a picture
I’m green but I’m not a coat
I’m a plant but I’m not mint
I’m seen in December but I’m not a Christmas tree
I encourage people to kiss but I’m not Cupid

Coconut Riddles

February 23, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of fruit riddles today with six that all have coconut as their answer. These ideas can therefore also be used with all of our riddles for kids with a food theme.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, the fifth is a one liner that also rhymes, while the sixth asks your children What Am I?

To use the What Am I riddle, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer will be. As the clue is that it contains water but isn’t a bottle, they might guess that it’s a swimming pool, a drinking glass or the ocean.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a coconut, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that coconut is the answer or until they run out of clues.

~

I’ve a brown shell on the outside
And my shape is an oval
However, I am not an egg
From a palm tree’s where I fall

~

This is brown and fuzzy on the outside
And has a weight of two or three pounds
Its inside is white and has some water
And is used in Almond Joy and Mounds

~

This is a fruit that contains some water
And can provide milk and oil for cooking
If you ever want to see one growing
On a palm tree’s where you should be looking

~

I am brown and hairy and grow on a palm tree

~

What Am I?

I contain water but I’m not a bottle
I can be used to make milk but I’m not a cow

I have a husk but I’m not a head of corn
I have a hard shell but I’m not an egg
I’m brown and hairy on the outside but I’m not a dog

Star Riddles

December 31, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

For the last few weeks, we’ve been publishing several different riddles with a space theme. We’re concluding that series for now with a set which all have the answer ‘star’.

This set also marks the start of a new series which will be all about different shapes.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, while the fourth is a one-liner.

The fifth and final one of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer would be.

As that first clue is that it’s something bright but which isn’t clever, they might guess that it’s a bonfire, a flashlight or a TV screen.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a star, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess the correct answer or they run out of clues.

During the festive season
This might top a Christmas tree
It’s also used to describe
A famous celebrity

~

These are giant balls of gas
Many light years away
Most are only seen at night
Although one’s seen in the day

~

There are millions of these things
Which are seen in the sky at night
The closest one to planet Earth
Is called the sun which shines so bright

~

I am a shape you see atop a Christmas tree

~

What Am I?

I’m bright but I’m not clever
I burn but I’m not a bonfire
I sound like I’m a celebrity but I’m not famous
I twinkle but I’m not an eye
I can be seen at night but I’m not the moon

Horse Riddles

August 6, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of animal riddles for kids is continuing today with ten of them that all have ‘horse’ as their answer.

This also means that these can be used with many of our other riddle themes such as sports, transport, farm and nature.

The first eight of these rhyme – with the fourth one, the word horse completes the rhyme. There’s also a one line riddle and a set of What Am I? questions.

With that final idea, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer. The clue about four legs might mean they guess a table, chair or any number of different animals.

If they don’t guess that it’s a horse, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Continue doing this until they either guess correctly that you’re describing a horse or they run out of clues.

10 Horse Riddles For Kids

Horse Riddles For Kids

I am a type of animal
Some say that I have a long face
I’m very good at running fast
So people ride me in a race

~

A stallion’s a male
A female is called a mare
You can ride on one of these
On a carousel at a fair

~

On the head and neck of these creatures
You will see that they have quite long manes
It’s best not to hold on to those though
Instead you should hold on to their reins

~

I am a tall animal
I run with a lot of force
I also canter or trot
You can ride me – I’m a _ _ _ _ _

~

When you startle one of these
Off it gallops like a shot
Once this animal’s slowed down
It will then canter or trot

~

You might sometimes see this animal
With a jockey riding on its back
Trying to run as fast as it can
While going round and round a track

~

Before there were cars and trains
This was how people got around
They’d get up on a saddle
Take its reins and then hooves would pound

~

I might be found on a farm
But I’m not known as swine
I run round in a field
And I’m known as equine

~

If you live next door to this animal, it’ll hopefully be a good neigh-bor

~

What Am I?

I have four legs but I’m not a dog
I can run fast but I’m not a cheetah
I like carrots but I’m not a rabbit
I have a mane but I’m not a lion
I can be ridden but I’m not a motorcycle

Shark Riddles

August 4, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of animal riddles has proven to be very popular, so we’re continuing with that theme today with seven where ‘shark’ is the answer.

These riddles for kids therefore fit in well with many of our other themes, such as nature, movies, beach and scary.

The first five of these are rhyming ones, there’s a one liner and it’s rounded off by a What Am I? riddle.

To use the last idea, read the first line of it to your children and get them to take a guess at what they think the answer is.

The reference to teeth might make them say something like a comb, mouth or lion. If that’s the case and they don’t guess that the answer’s shark, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again.

Keep doing this until they either guess that shark is the correct answer or they run out of clues.

Shark Riddles For Kids

Some people are scared of this creature
Because it can have a big bite
So be careful out in the ocean
One of its kind is a Great White

~

When someone doesn’t swim in the ocean
Then this animal might be the cause
Because they’re afraid they’ll be bitten
By this large fish who’s the star of Jaws

~

I have a very big bite
But I do not ever bark
I swim out in the ocean
I have a fin – I’m a _ _ _ _ _

~

Swimming around the ocean
While prey it does seek
The Discovery Channel
Gives it its own week

~

If you see this in the ocean
Then you will probably pause
Because most people are so scared
Of this creature that’s in Jaws

~

Many people are scared of this fish that has large Jaws

~

What Am I?

I have a lot of teeth but I’m not a cog
I scare a lot of people but I’m not a spider
I have a fin but I’m not a boat
I’m found in the ocean but I’m not a buoy
I sometimes have a hammerhead but I don’t hit nails
