Telescope Riddles

September 27, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are seven riddles for kids where the answer is a telescope, so they’re great for using with our other science, space and astronomy riddles.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth is a one line riddle which also has an internal rhyme.

The last of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something you can look through but which isn’t a window, they might guess that it’s a camera or a pair of sunglasses.

If they don’t guess that a telescope is the answer, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until your kids either work out that the answer is a telescope or they run out of clues.

When looking at the night sky
You’re able to see the moon
But you might need to use this
If you want to see Neptune

~

Although I’m not a window
I am something you look through
I’m often on a tripod
Things in space I help you view

~

If you put your eye to this
It can help you to see far
It helps you to see planets
The moon or even a star

~

This is something you can look through
Although it’s not a bubble
There is a large one out in space
Which has the name of Hubble

~

I’m often on a tripod
As I need a steady base
You look through me at the sky
For a good look into space

~

I can help you see far like the moon or a star

~

What Am I?

I can be looked through but I’m not a window
I have your eye pressed to me but I’m not a door peephole
I’m often placed on a tripod but I’m not a camera
I help you see things that are far away but I’m not a pair of binoculars
I’m often pointed at the sky but I’m not a satellite dish

Bee Riddles

September 22, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are nine riddles for kids where the answer is a bee. These are therefore perfect for using with our other nature and insect riddles.

The first seven of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘bee’ completing the rhyme of the seventh.

The eighth is a one line riddle that has an internal rhyme, while the ninth and final riddle asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the first line of it to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that can fly but which isn’t a helicopter, they might guess that it’s an airplane or a bird.

If they don’t guess that a bee is the answer, read them the clue that’s on the second line and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep going until they either guess correctly that the answer’s a bee or they run out of clues.

I am an insect
A hive is my home
I eat some pollen
To make honeycomb

~

This is a flying insect
In a hive it might be seen
Its workers go get pollen
To take it back to their queen

~

I’m a yellow and black insect
But to say I’m a wasp would be wrong
I am something that makes honey
And you might see me bumble along

~

This is something that can be a queen
It is yellow and black and has wings
It can be sweet as it makes honey
But when defending itself it stings

~

I am something that flies
And I am an insect
I make a buzzing noise
And can sting to protect

~

This has a head and tail
But it is not money
It is a flying insect
That helps to make honey

~

I’m an insect that can fly
And many say I’m busy
I often live in a hive
I make honey – I’m a _ _ _

~

I buzz and have wings and my tail stings

~

What Am I?

I can fly but I’m not a helicopter
I’m an insect but I’m not an ant
I’m yellow and black but I’m not a butterfly
I can sting but I’m not a wasp
I can often be found near honey but I’m not Winnie The Pooh

Window Riddles

August 23, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here’s a collection of six riddles for kids where the answer is a window, so there are perfect for using with all of our other household item riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth is a one line riddle which also has an internal rhyme.

The sixth of these asks your kids What Am I? To use that idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess as to what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that has a frame but which isn’t a bicycle, they might guess that it’s a pair of glasses, a door or a photograph.

If they don’t guess that a window is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly that it’s a window or they run out of clues.

This might be open when it’s hot
And be closed if it has rained
If you look on some old churches
This has glass that has been stained

~

This is something found throughout the house
Of that you can be very certain
Made of glass so you can see through it
But sometimes covered by a curtain

~

There are a lot of me on schools
On a car and your home too
Made of glass and can be opened
In order to let air through

~

Here’s a household item riddle
So it’s time to use your brain
This is an item with a frame
And some glass that’s called a pane

~

I help to keep out rain and I’m always a pane

~

What Am I?

I have a frame but I’m not a bicycle
I’m found throughout the house but I’m not a photo
I’m sometimes tinted but I’m not a pair of sunglasses
I’m mostly made of glass but I’m not a fish tank
I can often be opened or closed but I’m not a door

Key Riddles

August 18, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of household item riddles continues today with a set of riddles for kids that all have a key as their answer.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth is a one line riddle that has a rhyme internally.

The seventh idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and ask them to try guessing what they think it is that’s being described. As the clue is that it’s something that gets cut but doesn’t bleed, they might guess that it’s a vegetable, a piece of fruit or their hair.

If they don’t guess that the correct answer is a key, read them the clue that’s on the second line and have them try guessing again. Keep doing this until they either guess that a key is the answer or they run out of clues.

Sometimes to get inside a door
All you need to do is knock
Other times you will need this thing
So the door you can unlock

~

Although I’m not a diamond
I get put on a ring
When it is time to use me
A lock is opening

~

When you have to unlock something
But a code isn’t what you need
You need this thing that’s on a ring
Which has been cut but doesn’t bleed

~

I am something used with a door
But I’m not a Christmas wreath
Instead I am kept on a ring
I get turned and I have teeth

~

If you come up to a door
And you find your entry’s blocked
Push this in a hole and turn
So the door can be unlocked

~

To open a door you can knock or use this item to unlock

~

What Am I?

I get cut but I never bleed
I have teeth but I don’t bite
I get put on a ring but I’m not a diamond
I get turned but I’m not a page
I get put in a lock but I’m not a wrestler

Television Riddles

August 16, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing with our series of riddles for kids about household items with another item that you might find in a living room – a television.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles (with the word ‘television’ completing the rhyme of the third), while the fourth is a one line riddle that also has an internal rhyme.

The fifth and final one of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to guess what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that has a plug but which isn’t a sink, they might guess that it’s a bathtub, vacuum cleaner or phone charger.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a television, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess that a television is the correct answer or they run out of clues.

And turn on the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

I have a plug but I’m not a sink

I have a screen but I’m not a laptop
I have a remote control but I’m not a drone
