Kitchen Riddles

May 24, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re currently publishing a series of riddles for kids about things you can find around the house.

We’re focusing on the kitchen at the moment, with today’s batch specifically having the kitchen as the answer, meaning these also go well with our other riddles about rooms in a house.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them try to guess what it is that’s being described. As that first clue is that it’s something that’s found in a restaurant but which isn’t a menu, they might guess that it’s a table, a chair, a chef or some silverware.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a kitchen, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess that a kitchen is the answer or they run out of clues.

Kitchen Riddles For Kids

Kitchen Riddles For Kids

If you like to cook food
Then this room will be your fave
As it has an oven
A stovetop and microwave

~

Everyone has one in their house
As you can make food in this room
You use a mop to clean its floor
Rather than using a vacuum

~

This riddle is about a room
But it won’t really make you think
It’s the one with a dishwasher
A fridge-freezer, oven and sink

~

When you are feeling hungry
And popcorn’s what you crave
What room would you make it in
That has a microwave?

~

This room is important
I think that you’d agree
As there’s a fridge-freezer
And maybe a pantry

~

What Am I?

I’m found in a restaurant but I’m not a menu
I have several knives but I’m not a chef
I have lots of food but I’m not a picnic basket
I sometimes have an island but I’m not an ocean
I’m a room in a house but I don’t have a bed

Freezer Riddles

May 19, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of both household item and kitchen riddles for kids continues today with seven that all have a freezer as the answer.

The first six of these rhyme, with the word ‘freezer’ completing the rhyme of the sixth riddle.

The seventh is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As the clue is that it sometimes contains ice but isn’t something you drink, they might guess that it’s a lake in the winter, an ice rink or something else.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a freezer, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that a freezer is the answer or they run out of clues.

Freezer Riddles For Kids

To store food for a long time
This appliance might be chosen
Because it can keep food fresh
By making sure it stays frozen

~

If you want to store some food
This can help to keep it nice
It will often contain fries
Pizza, peas as well as ice

~

I’m a kitchen appliance
But I do not give off steam
Because I am very cold
I am where you keep ice cream

~

When you open its door
Then on will come its light
But it is not a fridge
It’s zero fahrenheit

~

I am something very cold
That should come as no surprise
As I am where food is kept
Such as garlic toast and fries

~

This is in your kitchen
It’s where your peas are
Maybe some pizza too
It is a _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I sometimes contain ice but I’m not something you drink
I have a door but I’m not an igloo
I’m in your kitchen but I’m not a glass
I contain food but I’m not a refrigerator
I’m very cold but I don’t have to wear a coat

Sink Riddles

May 17, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

For the last couple of weeks we’ve been publishing a series of household item riddles, with the first few of them being located in a bathroom.

We’re continuing that series today, although this will be the last of the bathroom riddles for now as it’s also the start of a series of kitchen riddles for kids. That’s because today’s collection all have a sink as the answer.

The first six of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘sink’ completing the rhyme of the sixth one.

The seventh of these asks your children What Am I? To use that final idea, read the clue on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be.

As the clue is that it’s something that’s found in their house but which isn’t a door, they might guess that it’s a bed, a wall, a TV or any number of other household items.

If they don’t guess that it’s a sink after the first clue, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess. Keep giving them clues until they either work out that the answer is a sink or they run out of clues.

7 Sink Riddles For Kids

Sink Riddles For Kids

This gets filled with water
But it’s not a glass or jug
It’s in your kitchen though
At the bottom there’s a plug

~

This is something in your kitchen
But not an oven where you bake
It is where you’d wash your dishes
If your dishwasher were to break

~

I am something that has a plug
But there’s no electricity
I’m in your bathroom and kitchen
And there’s a faucet above me

~

In the kitchen this fills with water
But it’s not because it rains
When the plug is pulled from the bottom
Then away the water drains

~

I am something in your home
In the room where dinner’s planned
I would get filled with water
If you wash dishes by hand

~

This might get filled with water
But not so that you can have a drink
It’s sometimes to wash dishes
It’s not a dishwasher – it’s a _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I can be found in your house but I’m not a door
I have a plug but I’m not a vacuum cleaner
I get filled with water but I’m not a coffee maker
I have a faucet above me but I’m not a bathtub
I can be used to wash dishes but I’m not a dishwasher
