Bee Riddles

September 22, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are nine riddles for kids where the answer is a bee. These are therefore perfect for using with our other nature and insect riddles.

The first seven of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘bee’ completing the rhyme of the seventh.

The eighth is a one line riddle that has an internal rhyme, while the ninth and final riddle asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the first line of it to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that can fly but which isn’t a helicopter, they might guess that it’s an airplane or a bird.

If they don’t guess that a bee is the answer, read them the clue that’s on the second line and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep going until they either guess correctly that the answer’s a bee or they run out of clues.

Bee Riddles For Kids

Bee Riddles For Kids

I am an insect
A hive is my home
I eat some pollen
To make honeycomb

~

This is a flying insect
In a hive it might be seen
Its workers go get pollen
To take it back to their queen

~

I’m a yellow and black insect
But to say I’m a wasp would be wrong
I am something that makes honey
And you might see me bumble along

~

This is something that can be a queen
It is yellow and black and has wings
It can be sweet as it makes honey
But when defending itself it stings

~

I am something that flies
And I am an insect
I make a buzzing noise
And can sting to protect

~

This has a head and tail
But it is not money
It is a flying insect
That helps to make honey

~

I’m an insect that can fly
And many say I’m busy
I often live in a hive
I make honey – I’m a _ _ _

~

I buzz and have wings and my tail stings

~

What Am I?

I can fly but I’m not a helicopter
I’m an insect but I’m not an ant
I’m yellow and black but I’m not a butterfly
I can sting but I’m not a wasp
I can often be found near honey but I’m not Winnie The Pooh

Butterfly Riddles

September 20, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are five riddles for kids where a butterfly is the answer, so they’re great for using with our other insect and nature riddles.

The first four of them are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘butterfly’ completing the rhyme of the fourth one.

The fifth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that idea, read your children the clue that’s on the first line and ask them to take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that has scales but which doesn’t measure weight, they might guess that it’s a fish or a snake.

If your kids don’t guess that the answer is a butterfly, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that a butterfly is the answer or they run out of clues.

This part of nature gets transformed
But it’s not summer becoming fall
It starts as a caterpillar
But emerges with wings colorful

~

I am a type of insect
But one that is beautiful
I look just like a large moth
But one that is colorful

~

It starts off as a caterpillar
And then it becomes a chrysalis
Then later it has colorful wings
Once it’s gone through metamorphosis

~

I am a type of insect
You might see flutter by
I have wings so colorful
I am a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have scales but I don’t measure weight
I’m an insect but I’m not a cockroach
I feed on nectar but I’m not a bee
I’m colorful but I’m not a rainbow
I flutter but I’m not a hummingbird

Ant Riddles

September 15, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are four riddles for kids where the answer is an ant – great for using with our other nature and insect riddles.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, while the fourth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that helps create a hill but which isn’t a mole, they might guess that it’s a digger.

If they don’t guess that an ant is the answer, read them the second clue and have them guess again now that they have some extra information. Keep going until they either guess that an ant is the correct answer or they run out of clues.

This is a type of insect
With antennae on its head
It might be found in a hill
And can be fire or red

~

I’m sometimes a soldier
That’s part of an army
I’m also an insect
That’s in a colony

~

This builds a hill but isn’t a mole
In fact it is a small insect
It can sometimes be red or fire
And it builds tunnels that connect

~

What Am I?

I help create a hill but I’m not a mole
I can carry heavy loads but I’m not a dump truck
I’m an insect but I’m not a dung beetle
I sometimes come after fire but I’m not a fly
I can be red but I’m not a ladybug

Mosquito Riddles

September 13, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are seven riddles for kids that all have a mosquito as their answer. These are therefore perfect for using with some of our other insect and nature riddles.

The first six of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘mosquito’ completing the rhyme of the sixth.

The seventh and final riddle asks your children What Am I? To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to guess what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that spreads disease but which isn’t a sneeze, they might guess that it’s a cough, germs or unclean water.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a mosquito, read your kids the clue that’s on the second line and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either give a mosquito as the answer or they run out of clues.

This is something that can fly
Although it is not a kite
It’s an annoying insect
Which is small and likes to bite

~

Although I have some wings and fly
I am not a mallard duck
Although I’m not a vampire
On your blood I like to suck

~

When in a foreign country
You might sleep under a net
So from this flying insect
An itchy bite you won’t get

~

If you ever get bitten by me
You might rub cream on that area
If you’re in some countries overseas
My bite can give you malaria

~

This is a type of insect
Although it’s not a bunch of fleas
It bites and sucks people’s blood
So spreads viruses and disease

~

This is something that can cause pain
But it’s not stubbing your big toe
Instead it is a small insect
It bites – it is a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I spread disease but I’m not a sneeze
I’m an insect but I’m not a spider
I can fly but I’m not an ant
I bite but I’m not a dog
I suck blood but I’m not a vampire

Spider Riddles

October 17, 2013 By Stephen Pepper

Here are several spider riddles that have been written specially for kids.

Most of these rhyme, but there’s also a ‘What Am I’ riddle – ask your kids this riddle one line at a time to see how many clues they need in order for them to work out the answer.

As these riddles are all about spiders, they’re great for all kinds of themes like:

  • Bugs and insects
  • Nature
  • Scary things
  • Halloween

We’ve also given some ideas below of spider-themed decorations, jewelry and costumes for a party, as well as some toys and books you could give out as prizes for any games or competitions that you organize.

In the center of a web
Are several trapped little flies
Heading in to eat them all
Is this creature with bulging eyes

~

This common little arachnid
An intricate web it does weave
And when many people see one
The room that they are in they leave!

~

This is a common little bug
That many people fear
This fear has a special name
It’s arachnophobia

~

What Am I?

I’m something a lot of people are scared of but I’m not heights
I sometimes bite but I’m not a snake
I have eight legs but I’m not two chairs
I eat flies but I’m not a frog
I have a web but I don’t have anything to do with the internet
