Grape Riddles

March 8, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of fruit riddles today with a few where the answer is a grape.

The first couple of them rhyme, while the third one is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your kids and ask them to take a guess at what they think the answer would be.

As the clue is that it’s something round which isn’t a ball, they might guess that it’s a wheel, a tomato, a clock, a dartboard or any number of other round objects.

If they don’t guess that a grape is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either guess that the correct answer is a grape or they run out of clues.

Grape Riddles For Kids

I can be red or green
I get grown on a vine
I’m dried to make raisins
Or squeezed to help make wine

~

This is a type of fruit
That you might eat at lunch
It’s small and it is round
And it comes in a bunch

~

What Am I?

I’m round but I’m not a ball
I’m a fruit but I’m not a grapefruit
I can be seedless but I’m not an orange
I can be red or green but I’m not an apple
I come in a bunch but I’m not a banana

Pear Riddles

March 3, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of fruit riddles continues today with four where the answer is a pear.

The last couple of them mention homophones, while the first one also makes a reference to the word ‘pear’ sounding like something. This might therefore mean that you need to explain homophones to your children – check out this explanation to help you.

The first three of these rhyme and the fourth is a What Am I riddle. To use that fourth idea, read the first line to your kids and ask them to guess the answer.

As that clue is that it’s something that’s usually green but which isn’t grass, they might guess that it’s a frog, a leaf or an apple.

If they don’t guess that a pear is the correct answer, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess that the answer is a pear or they run out of clues.

I am a fruit whose name sounds
As though there might be two of me
In a Christmas song there is
A partridge in this kind of tree

~

There is a Bosc, Anjou and Comice
As well as a Conference and Bartlett
Types of a fruit are being described
But are you able to name it?

~

This is a popular fruit
Which often has green coloring
Its name is a homophone
For when you have two of something

~

What Am I?

I’m usually green but I’m not grass
I’m something you can eat in The Twelve Days Of Christmas but I’m not a French Hen
I’m a homophone for when you have two of something but I’m not a duel
I grow on a tree but I’m not a leaf
I’m a fruit but I’m not an apple

Raisin Riddles

March 1, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Today we’re continuing our series of fruit riddles for kids with a collection that all have raisin as their answer.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles (with the word ‘raisin’ completing the rhyme of the third one), while the fourth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something small, there’s any number of things that they might suggest.

If they don’t get extremely lucky and guess that the answer is a raisin, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

If you like to eat small fruit
Then this one is sure to please
Because it is a dried grape
Used in oatmeal cookies

~

I’m sometimes in breakfast cereals
In a box of bran flakes I’m sprinkled
I am a grape that has been dried out
Which means that I am small and wrinkled

~

If you like your dried fruit
This small one is amazin’
It is a dried up grape
Which means that it’s a _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m small but I’m not a baby
I’m wrinkled but I’m not an old person
I often come in a small box but I’m not a breakfast cereal
I’m dried but not by a towel
I’m a fruit but I’m not an apricot

Lemon Riddles

February 25, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of fruit riddles for kids continues today with five where the answer is a lemon. These therefore also go well with our other food riddles.

The first four of them rhyme;  if you use the second idea, you might need to explain to your kids that the answer is an anagram of ‘melon.’

The fifth idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As that clue is that it’s something that’s yellow but which isn’t a rubber duck, they might guess that it’s a sunflower, a pepper or a banana.

If they don’t guess that a lemon is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep going until they either get the correct answer or they run out of clues.

This is something yellow
But it is not a light
It is a citrus fruit
That’s a flavor in Sprite

~

I am a type of citrus fruit
Although I am not an orange
I am not a melon either
But ‘melon’ you should rearrange

~

This is a type of fruit
Whose shape is an oval
Its color is yellow
And it is fairly small

~

This riddle is about a fruit
It might be one that makes you think
It’s said that when life gives you these
You should make something you can drink

~

What Am I?

I’m yellow but I’m not a rubber duck
I have seeds but I’m not a sunflower
I’m oval but I’m not an egg
I’m sour but I’m not a piece of candy
I’m a fruit but I’m not a banana

Coconut Riddles

February 23, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of fruit riddles today with six that all have coconut as their answer. These ideas can therefore also be used with all of our riddles for kids with a food theme.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, the fifth is a one liner that also rhymes, while the sixth asks your children What Am I?

To use the What Am I riddle, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer will be. As the clue is that it contains water but isn’t a bottle, they might guess that it’s a swimming pool, a drinking glass or the ocean.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a coconut, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that coconut is the answer or until they run out of clues.

It’s white on the inside
And it comes from a palm tree

~

I’ve a brown shell on the outside
And my shape is an oval
However, I am not an egg
From a palm tree’s where I fall

~

This is brown and fuzzy on the outside
And has a weight of two or three pounds
Its inside is white and has some water
And is used in Almond Joy and Mounds

~

This is a fruit that contains some water
And can provide milk and oil for cooking
If you ever want to see one growing
On a palm tree’s where you should be looking

I have a hard shell but I’m not an egg
I’m brown and hairy on the outside but I’m not a dog
