Needle Riddles

November 8, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are five riddles for kids where the answer is a needle. These ideas are therefore perfect for using with our other medical, household item and clothing riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to try guessing what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something thin but which isn’t a piece of wire, they might guess that it’s a piece of string, a pencil or a nail.

If they don’t guess that a needle is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either work out that the answer’s a needle or they run out of clues.

5 Needle Riddles For Kids

Needle Riddles For Kids

I am something with a sharp point
But I am not a thumbtack
People say I’d be hard to find
If I was in a haystack

~

This is something with an eye
But it doesn’t have a head
It’s something used for sewing
As it is used with some thread

~

I’m something made of metal
But I am not made of lead
I’m something with a sharp point
To sew, you use me with thread

~

This is something used for knitting
And from a pine tree it can fall
It’s also part of a syringe
There’s a Space one in Seattle

~

What Am I?

I’m thin but I’m not a piece of wire
I’m sharp but I’m not a pencil
I’m made of metal but I’m not a nail
I have an eye but I can’t see
I’m used for sewing but I’m not a piece of thread

Guitar Riddles

November 3, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are six riddles for kids where a guitar is the answer. These are therefore perfect for using with all of our other music and instrument riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles (with the word ‘guitar’ completing the rhyme of the fourth), while the fifth is a one line riddle that also contains a rhyme.

The sixth idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think it is that’s being described. As the clue is that it’s something that can be electric but which isn’t a car, they might guess that it’s a chair, a light bulb or a can opener.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a guitar, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again now that they have some additional information. Keep going until they either work out that a guitar’s the answer or they run out of clues.

This is not a giraffe
But it has a neck that’s long
It’s something with six strings
And is used to play a song

~

I can be acoustic
I can also be a bass
I can be electric
I get carried in a case

~

Although this is sometimes a bass
It’s not a fish in the sea
Instead it’s something with some strings
And it gets used musically

~

This can sometimes be electric
Although it is not a car
It’s a musical instrument
With six strings – it’s a _ _ _ _ _ _

~

This is something with six strings and music is what it brings

~

What Am I?

I can be electric but I’m not a car
I get carried in a case but I’m not a cellphone
I have a neck but I don’t wear a scarf
I have strings but I’m not a tennis racket
I’m a musical instrument but I’m not a piano

Piano Riddles

November 1, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are five riddles for kids where the answer is a piano. These are therefore great for using with our other instrument and music riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth asks your children What Am I?

To use that final riddle, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and ask them to take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that can be played but which isn’t a board game, they might guess that it’s a football, a video game or a guitar.

If they don’t guess that a piano is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either correctly guess that the answer’s a piano or they run out of clues.

Piano Riddles For Kids

This is something that can be played
But it doesn’t require balls
It has many black and white keys
And strings, hammers and some pedals

~

I have lots of hammers inside
But there’s no nails for them to hit
To use them you press down on keys
They play notes while on a stool you sit

~

If you’re going to play this
You’ll need to sit on a stool
Put your fingers on the keys
And your foot on a pedal

~

I am a type of instrument
That can be grand or upright
I have hammers, strings and pedals
And my keys are black and white

~

What Am I?

I can be played but I’m not a board game
I have keys but I don’t have any locks
I have hammers but I don’t have any nails
I have pedals but I’m not a bicycle
I can be tuned but I’m not a radio

Drum Riddles

October 27, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are six riddles for kids where the answer is a drum, so they’re great for using with our other instrument and music riddles.

The first five are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘drum’ completing the rhyme of the fifth.

The sixth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something you can beat but which isn’t an egg, they might guess that it’s a sports team, a world record or a dead horse.

If your kids don’t guess that the answer is a drum, read them the second clue and ask them to try guessing again now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that a drum is the answer or they run out of clues.

Although this thing’s not an egg
It is something that you can beat
As you hit its skin with sticks
And for a bass you use your feet

~

This is a type of instrument
But it doesn’t require picks
As it doesn’t have any strings
Instead you play it with some sticks

~

With most types of this instrument
You would hit it using some sticks
But with the bass version of this
There’s a pedal to give it kicks

~

Tom-toms and steel pans
Djembes and bongos
Kettles and tympani
What are all of those?

~

I am a type of instrument
But I’m not something you strum
Instead you use sticks to play me
Which means that I am a _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m something you can beat but I’m not an egg
I have skin but I’m not a boxer
I’m often cylindrical but I’m not a can of paint
I often come as a set but I’m not golf clubs
I sometimes have a snare but I don’t catch animals
I’m a musical instrument but I’m not a guitar

Eye Riddles

October 25, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Here are eight riddles for kids where the answer is an eye, so they’re perfect for using with our other anatomy and human body riddles.

The first six of these are rhyming riddles, while the seventh is a one line riddle which also rhymes.

The eighth riddle asks your kids the question What Am I? To use that What Am I riddle, read the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that has a lid but which isn’t a can of paint, they might guess that it’s a cup of coffee, a box or a Tupperware container.

If they don’t guess that an eye is the answer, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again. Keep going until they either guess correctly that the answer is an eye or they run out of clues.

Eye Riddles For Kids

When getting someone’s attention
This is what you might try to catch
And if you’re a pirate at sea
It might be covered by a patch

~

This is something with a lid
But it’s not a coffee mug
It’s something with a socket
But it doesn’t have a plug

~

I am a body part
But I am not a knee
I am found on your face
I’m what you use to see

~

Although it’s not a curtain
This gets closed every night
So that you can go to sleep
It’s what gives you your sight

~

These come in different colours
But they are not felt tip pens
To help these things work better
You might use a contact lens

~

This thing has some lashes
But it is not a whip
It’s able to be closed
But it is not a zip
It’s part of your body
But it is not a hip
There are two on your face
But it is not a lip

~

I’m closed at night, I give you sight

~

What Am I?

I have a lid but I’m not a can of paint
I have a lens but I’m not a camera
I’m in a socket but I’m not a plug
I have an iris but I’m not a bunch of flowers
I have lashes but I don’t have a whip
