Water Riddles

Here are seven riddles for kids where the answer is water. These brainteasers are therefore excellent for using with our other beverage and nature riddles.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth is a one line riddle that also rhymes.

The seventh idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it’s something that can be sparkling but which isn’t a star, they might guess that it’s glitter, a sequin or someone’s eyes.

If they don’t guess that water is the answer, read your children the second clue and ask them to try guessing again. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly that the answer is water or they run out of clues.

Water Riddles For Kids

You might use a lot of this
For a fight in the summer
If this leaks inside your house
You need to call a plumber

This is something you can find
In a lake and in a stream
When frozen it turns to ice
When boiled it turns to steam

I go solid in freezers
In rivers I can flow
My chemical formula
Is known as H2O

This is sometimes sparkling
And sometimes it is still
As it is a liquid
It’s something you can spill

If you go to Niagara Falls
You’ll see lots of this in motion
You also see it in a bath
In a glass and in the ocean

I’m liquid and I flow, I’m made of H2O

What Am I?

I can be sparkling but I’m not a star
I can run but I don’t have any legs
I can fall but I don’t get hurt
I’m found in a bath but I’m not a rubber duck
I can help you clean but I’m not soap

Sand Riddles

Here are eight riddles for kids where sand is the answer. These ideas are therefore perfect for using with our other beach and nature riddles.

The first six of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘sand’ completing the rhyme of the sixth. The seventh is a one line riddle, while the eighth and final riddle asks your children the question What Am I?

To use that idea, read the first line to your children and have them take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that’s small but which isn’t a hamster, they might guess that it’s a coin, an eraser or a grape.

If they don’t guess that the answer is sand, read them the clue that’s on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess that sand is the answer or they run out of clues.

Sand Riddles For Kids

This can be found on a golf course
But it is not a blade of grass
Instead it’s something that’s grainy
And is found in an hourglass

You might find this on the ground
But it isn’t dirty mud
It is sometimes put in bags
To protect against a flood

I am something that’s so small
Lots of me fits on a teaspoon
You can see me on a beach
And I am what makes up a dune

To answer this riddle
You don’t need to be brainy
Just name what’s on the beach
It’s the stuff that is grainy

I’m made into a castle
Although I am not a brick
I might get into your food
If you have a beach picnic

Thousands of pieces of this stuff
Can be held in the palm of your hand
It’s something you find on the beach
Which means that the answer is some _ _ _ _

If you take a photo of this at the beach, it might look quite grainy.

What Am I?

I’m small but I’m not a hamster

I’m a natural material but I’m not a blade of grass

Zebra Riddles

Here are four riddles for kids where the answer is a zebra, so these are all great for using with our other nature and animal riddles.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, while the fourth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess at what they think the answer could be. As the clue is that it’s something that’s black and white but which isn’t a newspaper, they might guess that it’s a salt and pepper shaker, a barcode or a penguin.

If they don’t guess that a zebra is the answer, read them the clue that’s on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some extra information. Keep going until they either work out that the answer is a zebra or they run out of clues.

This is something black and white
But it’s not an old TV
It’s a type of animal
That starts with the letter Z

I am a type of animal
You might see on a safari
I’m covered in black and white stripes
I’m part of the horse family

This thing has black and white stripes
But it isn’t a barcode

I have stripes but I’m not a prisoner uniform

Grass Riddles

Here are eight riddles for kids where grass is the answer. These ideas are therefore perfect for using with our other nature riddles.

The first five of these riddles rhyme, while the next two are both one line riddles.

The eighth and final idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that has blades but which isn’t a fan, they might guess that it’s a razor, knife or a helicopter.

If they don’t guess that the answer is grass, read them the clue that’s on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either work out that grass is the correct answer or they run out of clues.

Although it’s made of blades
It’s something that can grow
As it’s not a razor
It’s something that you mow

This is something that is green
Many sports on it are played
Even though it’s what gets cut
A piece of it’s called a blade

I am something on the ground
In your yard I can be seen

This is a tennis surface
Although it isn’t clay
If you leave this to dry out
It might turn into hay

Although this thing has many blades
It’s not used as a chopper
To make the name of an insect
Put this word before ‘hopper’

Here are five riddles for kids where the answer is a hat, meaning these are great for using with all our other clothes riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the first line of the riddle to your kids and ask them to try guessing what they think is being described. As the clue is that it’s something that can be used to cover things but which isn’t a tent, they might guess that it’s an umbrella, a lid or a roof.

If they don’t guess that a hat is the answer, read them the second clue and ask them to guess again now that they have some further information. Keep doing this until they either work out that a hat is the answer or they run out of clues.
