Daisy Riddles

April 28, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of plant and flower riddles continues today with four where the answer is a daisy.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘daisy’ completing the rhyme of the first one.

The fourth is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line of it to your kids and have them take a guess at the answer.

As the clue is that it’s someone in Thomas And Friends but who isn’t Gordon, they might guess that it’s James, Percy, Henry or one of the other characters.

If they don’t guess that Daisy is the answer (as she’s a more minor character), read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess the correct answer or they run out of clues.

She also has the name of a flower
And in Mario games she’s a Princess

I’m a type of flower but I’m not a rose

Lavender Riddles

April 26, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We started a new series last week where all the riddles are different types of plants or flowers.

We’re continuing that series today with some rhyming riddles for kids that have lavender as their answer. To be honest, we struggled to come up with ideas for this one, so there are only a few riddles for lavender below!

I am the color purple
But am I a movie? Nope!
I am a type of flower
Sometimes used as scent in soap

~

Its color is a type of purple
And it is a type of flower
It is sometimes the scent of products
That you might use in the shower

~

You might see this purple flower
Growing in fields in Provence, France
Is it in your bath products?
It’s commonly used so there’s a chance

~

I am a purple flower that you might smell in the shower

Mistletoe Riddles

April 21, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re starting a new series today where we’re going to be publishing lots of riddles for kids about different types of plants and flowers.

Today’s collection all have mistletoe as their answer, so these are also perfect for using with our other Christmas riddles.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your children and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something which is hung but which isn’t a picture, they’ll probably guess that it’s a coat or some other item of clothing.

If they don’t guess that the answer is mistletoe after this first clue, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

This is a type of plant
That you might see at Christmas
It’s hung above your head
And beneath it you might kiss

~

This is a green plant you see
Towards the end of the year
And when you stand under it
You might kiss somebody dear

~

I’m a plant seen at Christmas
Which people hang above
And then they stand beneath me
And kiss someone they love

~

When you stand under this, then you will get a kiss

~

What Am I?

I get hung but I’m not a picture
I’m green but I’m not a coat
I’m a plant but I’m not mint
I’m seen in December but I’m not a Christmas tree
I encourage people to kiss but I’m not Cupid

Airplane Riddles

April 19, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of transport riddles for kids today with nine which all have an airplane as their answer.

The first eight of them are all rhyming riddles, with the word ‘airplane’ completing the rhyme of the eighth one.

The final idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and ask them to guess what it is that you’re describing.

As it’s something with a nose but which isn’t a dog, they’ll probably guess that it’s another kind of animal or a person. If they don’t guess that the answer is an airplane, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess.

Keep doing this until they either guess correctly or they run out of clues.

This carries lots of people
As it’s a mode of transport
You can see a lot of these
If you go to an airport

~

When people board this type of transport
Into different cabins they are split
It has wings, a nose and a tail
And the pilots fly in a cockpit

~

This is the thing that you might take
If you’re wanting to travel abroad
A famous type of this transport
Was supersonic and called Concorde

~

If you travel overseas
This is the transport you might get
As it flies up in the sky
And it’s also known as a jet

~

Although I’m not a bird
I have wings so I can fly
I can help you travel
By jetting off through the sky

~

I am a mode of transport
On each side there is a wing
Some are made by Airbus
Others are made by Boeing

~

You might use this to go overseas
But it doesn’t have any sails
Instead it flies high up in the sky
And sometimes leaves behind contrails

~

This is something you’d board
To take you over to Spain
As it can fly you there
The answer is an _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have a nose but I’m not a dog
I have a tail but I’m not a cat
I’m made of metal but I’m not a fork
I have an engine but I’m not a car
I transport people but I’m not a train
I have wings but I’m not a bird

Car Riddles

April 14, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of transport riddles is continuing today with nine that all have a car as the answer.

The first eight of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘car’ completing the rhyme of the eighth one.

The final riddle asks your children What Am I? To use that idea, read the first line to your kids and have them take a guess at what they think the answer would be. As the clue is that it’s something with seats but which isn’t a classroom, they might guess that it’s a living room, a movie theater or a train.

If they don’t guess that it’s a car after that first clue, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that the answer is a car or they run out of clues.

If you ever want one of these
Then a license you must get
This transport’s spelled with three letters
But it isn’t called a jet

~

Though I’m not an elephant
I am something with a trunk
If I get old and rusty
You might sell me off as junk

~

Even though it is not a house
It has mirrors and windows
It even has seats and a roof
And four doors that you can close

~

This is a type of vehicle
Which is sometimes a sedan
There’s an SUV or hatchback
And sometimes a minivan

~

This is something that can transport you
It has four tires and a steering wheel
You can sit in the front or back seat
It’s also known as an automobile

~

I am something with a hood
But I am not a coat
I am a type of transport
But I am not a boat

~

You might use a clutch
To put this into gear
And there’s a wheel
You use so you can steer

~

I’m a three letter word
That can get you very far
As I have four wheels
Which means that I am a _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have seats but I’m not a classroom
I have mirrors but I’m not a barber shop
I have windows but I’m not a bathroom
I have wheels but I’m not an airplane
I have a trunk but I’m not an elephant
