Knife Riddles

June 2, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of riddles for kids about household items with five today where the answer is a knife.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle. To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and ask them to take a guess at the answer.

The clue is that it has a handle but isn’t a car door, so they might guess that it’s a bedroom door, purse, bucket or briefcase.

If they don’t guess that a knife is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and have them guess again. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly that the answer is a knife or they run out of clues.

Because this item is sharp
You shouldn’t give it a lickin’
You use it to cut up food
And sometimes to carve a chicken

~

I’m something in your kitchen
Although I am not a cup
I’m a piece of silverware
Used to cut all your food up

~

There is one that’s made for pockets
And one that’s especially for steaks
There’s one to spread peanut butter
And a large one to cut wedding cakes

~

If you open a kitchen drawer
This is something that you might see
Smaller ones are used to cut your food
And larger ones to carve turkey

~

What Am I?

I have a handle but I’m not a car door
I’m found in a kitchen but I’m not a cupboard door
I sometimes spread things but I’m not a sneeze
I’m used to cut things but I’m not a pair of scissors
I have a blade but I’m not grass

Microwave Riddles

May 31, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

For the last few weeks, we’ve been publishing a series of riddles for kids which are all household items. The last few of these have been items you can find in the kitchen.

Today’s collection is no exception as the answer to all of these is a microwave, meaning they can also be used with our other appliance riddles.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks your children What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that has a door but isn’t a cupboard, they might guess that it’s a car, a bedroom or an advent calendar.

If they don’t guess that a microwave is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly that the answer is a microwave or they run out of clues.

This is something in the kitchen
Which can cook food on demand
What it’s called sounds similar to
A small movement of a hand

~

When you’re feeling hungry
And you need something to eat
If your food has gone cold
You can use this to reheat

~

I rotate but I’m not the Earth
As it orbits round the sun
Instead I’m used to heat up food
And I beep when I am done

~

I am used for cooking food
But not for it to be fried
I am a type of oven
But I don’t get hot inside

~

If you get home late from practice
This appliance is a winner
As instead of having cold food
This thing can reheat your dinner

~

What Am I?

I have a door but I’m not a cupboard
I have buttons but I’m not an elevator
I beep but I’m not a car
I’m found in your kitchen but I’m not a dishwasher
I can cook things but I’m not a saucepan

Washing Machine Riddles

May 26, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of household item riddles continues today with another item that can often be found in a kitchen, as today’s set all have a washing machine as their answer.

The first five of these rhyme, with the words ‘washing machine’ completing the rhyme of the fifth one.

The sixth idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your kids and ask them to guess the answer. The clue is that it gets filled with water but isn’t a drinking glass, so your children might try guessing that it’s a bathtub, a sink or a rain barrel.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a washing machine, read them the clue that’s on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some further information. Keep going until they either guess correctly that it’s a washing machine or they run out of clues.

This appliance
Will clean your shirt
When it has been
Covered in dirt

~

This is something in your house
Which is used because it cleans
It’s not a dishwasher though
As it cleans your socks and jeans

~

If you have any dirty clothes
Then you will need to make use of this
If you go to a laundromat
You’ll see lots of these appliances

~

I am something you can find in your house
That you would use when your clothes are dirty
Before going in a tumble dryer
You would usually first put them in me

~

When your jeans and T-shirts get dirty
Then you put them in this to get clean
It’s filled with water and detergent
Which means that it’s a _ _ _ _ _ _ _      _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I get filled with water but I’m not a drinking glass
I spin but I’m not a propeller
I clean things but I’m not a janitor
I’m a household appliance but I’m not a dishwasher
I have clothes put in me but I’m not a closet

Kitchen Riddles

May 24, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re currently publishing a series of riddles for kids about things you can find around the house.

We’re focusing on the kitchen at the moment, with today’s batch specifically having the kitchen as the answer, meaning these also go well with our other riddles about rooms in a house.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that last idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them try to guess what it is that’s being described. As that first clue is that it’s something that’s found in a restaurant but which isn’t a menu, they might guess that it’s a table, a chair, a chef or some silverware.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a kitchen, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess that a kitchen is the answer or they run out of clues.

If you like to cook food
Then this room will be your fave
As it has an oven
A stovetop and microwave

~

Everyone has one in their house
As you can make food in this room
You use a mop to clean its floor
Rather than using a vacuum

~

This riddle is about a room
But it won’t really make you think
It’s the one with a dishwasher
A fridge-freezer, oven and sink

~

When you are feeling hungry
And popcorn’s what you crave
What room would you make it in
That has a microwave?

~

This room is important
I think that you’d agree
As there’s a fridge-freezer
And maybe a pantry

~

What Am I?

I’m found in a restaurant but I’m not a menu
I have several knives but I’m not a chef
I have lots of food but I’m not a picnic basket
I sometimes have an island but I’m not an ocean
I’m a room in a house but I don’t have a bed

Freezer Riddles

May 19, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of both household item and kitchen riddles for kids continues today with seven that all have a freezer as the answer.

The first six of these rhyme, with the word ‘freezer’ completing the rhyme of the sixth riddle.

The seventh is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As the clue is that it sometimes contains ice but isn’t something you drink, they might guess that it’s a lake in the winter, an ice rink or something else.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a freezer, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that a freezer is the answer or they run out of clues.

Freezer Riddles For Kids

To store food for a long time
This appliance might be chosen
Because it can keep food fresh
By making sure it stays frozen

~

If you want to store some food
This can help to keep it nice
It will often contain fries
Pizza, peas as well as ice

~

I’m a kitchen appliance
But I do not give off steam
Because I am very cold
I am where you keep ice cream

~

When you open its door
Then on will come its light
But it is not a fridge
It’s zero fahrenheit

~

I am something very cold
That should come as no surprise
As I am where food is kept
Such as garlic toast and fries

~

This is in your kitchen
It’s where your peas are
Maybe some pizza too
It is a _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I sometimes contain ice but I’m not something you drink
I have a door but I’m not an igloo
I’m in your kitchen but I’m not a glass
I contain food but I’m not a refrigerator
I’m very cold but I don’t have to wear a coat
