Closet Riddles

June 21, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

For the last month, we’ve been publishing a series of household item riddles. We’re continuing that series today and moving from the kitchen to the bedroom with a set of riddles where the answer is a closet.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘closet’ completing the rhyme of fourth.

The fifth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line of it to your kids and ask them to guess what they think the answer might be.

As the clue is that it’s something which has a door but which isn’t a car, they might try guessing that it’s a cupboard, a room or an airplane.

If they don’t guess that a closet is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either guess that the answer is a closet or they run out of clues.

This is where items can be stored
So your bedroom’s not a mess
It’s also where things get hung up
Like shirts, jackets or a dress

~

I am something in your house
Although I am not a cup
I am found in your bedroom
I’m where your clothes get hung up

~

This can be found in your house
But it’s not a breakfast tray
It’s where clothes and other things
Can be neatly stored away

~

This is something that’s in your house
It’s where your clothes you might deposit
It’s good for storing other things
It’s in a bedroom – it’s a _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have a door but I’m not a car
I have things hanging inside me but I’m not a gallery
I store things but I’m not a shed
I’m in your house but I’m not a bathroom
I contain clothes but I’m not a washing machine

Spoon Riddles

June 16, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of riddles for kids about household items continues today with another item that can be found in a kitchen – a spoon.

The first four of these rhyme, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that fifth idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and ask them to take a guess at what they think the answer would be.

As the clue is that it’s something that has a handle but which isn’t a hammer, they might guess that it’s a bag, a car door or a cupboard.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a spoon, read them the clue found on the second line and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either work out that a spoon is the answer or they run out of clues.

I’m a piece of silverware
Although I am not a fork
But if I’m combined with one
Then you end up with a spork

~

This is something in your kitchen
Answer this riddle if you’re able
You use it to help you eat food
It comes after soup, tea and table

~

I can sometimes be a verb
And I can sometimes be a noun
I’m a piece of silverware
That can reflect things upside down

~

Even though it is not a fork
It sometimes helps you eat a meal
Even though it is not a bowl
It is used when you eat cereal

~

What Am I?

I have a handle but I’m not a hammer
I’m usually made of metal or plastic but I’m not a clothes hanger
I’m found in a kitchen but I’m not a microwave
I can be used to measure things but I’m not a cup
I reflect things upside down but I’m not a house of mirrors

Oven Riddles

June 14, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing with our series of household item riddles today with five where the answer is an oven.

These ideas are therefore also perfect for using with our appliance and kitchen riddles.

The first four of them are rhyming riddles, while the fifth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that final idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that gets hot but doesn’t sweat, they might guess that it’s a fire, a BBQ, a sauna or a toaster.

If they don’t guess that an oven is the answer, read them the second clue and have them guess again. Keep going until they either answer correctly or they run out of clues.

When you need to cook some food
This appliance might be chosen
As it can bake some cookies
Or a pizza which is frozen

~

This item in your kitchen
Cooks things but it’s not for toast
It is gas or electric
And can bake, broil and roast

~

I am a kitchen appliance
But I am not used to make toast
In November at Thanksgiving
Your large turkey is what I roast

~

If you are feeling hungry
And there’s food you need to make
Use this to roast a chicken
Or some cookies it can bake

~

What Am I?

I get hot but I never sweat
I cook things but I’m not a chef
I have a door but you don’t go through me
I can sometimes clean myself but I’m not a person
I can be gas or electric but I’m not a car

Toaster Riddles

June 9, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of riddles for kids about household items continues today with five where the answer is a toaster.

These can also therefore be used with our other riddles about appliances and things you can specifically find in a kitchen.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘toaster’ completing the rhyme of the fourth one.

The fifth and final riddle asks your kids the question What Am I? To use that riddle, read your children the clue listed on the first line and ask them to try to guess the answer.

The clue is that it’s something in their house but which isn’t a TV. As the clue is quite vague, they might guess that it’s a bed, a toothbrush, a sofa or one of many other possible objects.

If they don’t get lucky and guess that a toaster is the answer with their first guess, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either realize that the correct answer is a toaster or they run out of clues.

This small kitchen appliance
Gets pushed down and then it starts
It’s used for slices of bread
Or for heating up Pop-Tarts

~

When you’re hungry in the morning
This will help ensure you’re fed
It’s a small kitchen appliance
Which can cook slices of bread

~

I’m something in your house
But I am not your bed
As I’m in your kitchen
I’m used to cook your bread

~

This is something in your house
But it’s not a drinks coaster
You put in slices of bread
And push down – it’s a _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m in your house but I’m not a TV
I get pushed down but I’m not a plunger
I have several temperature settings but I’m not a microwave
I have a filament but I’m not a light bulb
I often contain bread but I’m not a sandwich

Refrigerator Riddles

June 7, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing with our series of riddles about items found around the house today with five where the answer is a refrigerator. These therefore also work well with all of our other kitchen and appliance riddles.

The first four of them are rhyming riddles, with the fifth asking your kids What Am I?

To use the What Am I riddle, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them try to guess what the answer is. The clue is that it’s something that has shelves but which isn’t a bookcase, so they might guess that it’s a grocery store, a cupboard or a garage.

If they don’t guess that a refrigerator is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess taking into account this extra information. Keep doing this until they either guess the correct answer or they run out of clues.

This is something in your kitchen
Meat, milk and yogurt it does hold
The reason you put them in this
Is because it helps keep them cold

~

If you eat meat and dairy products
Then this is what you will keep filled
Because for them to be safe to eat
You need this to help keep them chilled

~

This is a kitchen appliance
If your height’s 3 feet, this is taller
It has different food stored inside
It’s not room temperature but cooler

~

This has something to control its temperature
But it’s not an air conditioner unit
It is in your kitchen and it has a door
And it often has meat, cheese and milk in it

~

What Am I?

I have shelves but I’m not a bookcase
I have a door but I’m not a cupboard
I have a light but I’m not a lamp
I contain food but I’m not a grocery store
I’m cold inside but I’m not an igloo
