Vacuum Cleaner Riddles

July 7, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of household item riddles continues today with five where the answer is a vacuum cleaner.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, while the fifth is a What Am I riddle.

To use that final idea, read the first line of it to your kids and have them guess what they think the answer might be. As the clue is that it sometimes has a bag but isn’t someone at the mall, they might guess that it’s Santa, a golfer or a traveler.

If they don’t guess that a vacuum cleaner is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess the correct answer or they run out of clues.

Vacuum Cleaner Riddles For Kids

Vacuum Cleaner Riddles For Kids

This is a household appliance
But it doesn’t clean your shirt
You push it all over the floor
And it sucks up all the dirt

~

If you want to have a clean home
This appliance is a must
Because it can clean all your floors
As it sucks up dirt and dust

~

I am something that cleans floors
Although I am not a broom
I’m able to suck up dirt
To clean carpets in each room

~

This often has two wheels
But it’s not a bike you ride
Plug it in and push it round
And it cleans your floors inside

~

What Am I?

I sometimes have a bag but I’m not someone at the mall
I usually have two wheels but I’m not a bicycle
I have a plug but I’m not a bathtub
I clean but I’m not a janitor
I suck but I’m not a straw

Ladder Riddles

July 5, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of riddles for kids about household items today with five where the answer is a ladder.

The first four of these rhyme, with the fourth one also being perfect for using with our superstition riddles.

The fifth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the clue on the first line to your kids and ask them to take a guess at the answer.

As the clue is that it’s something that’s often made of metal but which isn’t a necklace, they might guess that it’s a photo frame, soda can or a hammer.

If they don’t guess that a ladder is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to guess again now that they know some extra information. Keep going until they either guess correctly that the answer’s a ladder or they run out of clues.

Ladder Riddles For Kids

You would put your feet on this
But it’s not a ball you’d kick
Instead you would walk up one
To get into your attic

~

If there’s something high you need to get
But you can’t reach it as you’re not tall
Then you might climb up the rungs on this
After leaning it against a wall

~

If your upstairs windows are dirty
So outside they need to be cleaned
You might use this to climb to reach them
Once against the wall it is leaned

~

If you know your superstitions
This riddle shouldn’t get you stuck
If you walk under one of these
Then beware – you’ll have bad luck

~

What Am I?

I’m often made of metal but I’m not a necklace
I’m often stored in a garage but I’m not a car
I can sometimes be extended but I’m not a deadline
I’m associated with a superstition but I’m not a mirror
I can help you reach things that are high up but I’m not a chair

Bed Riddles

June 30, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of riddles for kids about household items is continuing today with five where the answer is a bed. These are therefore great for using with all of our other furniture and bedroom riddles.

The first four of these rhyme, with the word ‘bed’ completing the rhyme of the fourth one.

The fifth of these is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your kids and ask them to guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that has a base but which isn’t a baseball field, they might guess that it’s the military, a cheesecake or a mountain.

If they don’t guess that a bed is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and ask them to take another guess. Keep going until they either guess that the correct answer is a bed or they run out of clues.

This is something with a base
That’s often called a box spring
It’s a piece of furniture
A room’s named after this thing

~

Although I’m not royalty
I am often a queen or king
When it gets dark every night
It’s on me people are sleeping

~

This is a piece of furniture
There’s a room named after this
It’s something that’s used every night
Because it has a mattress

~

The answer to this riddle
Is somewhere that you lay your head
The answer’s not a pillow
But what it sits on – it’s a _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have a base but I’m not a baseball field
I have sheets but I’m not a binder
I’m sometimes a king but I don’t have a crown
I’m used every night but I’m not a light
I have a room named after me but I’m not a bath

Pillow Riddles

June 28, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

We’re continuing our series of household item riddles today with four where the answer is a pillow. These are therefore also perfect for using with our other bedroom riddles.

The first three of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘pillow’ completing the rhyme of the third one, while the fourth asks your kids What Am I?

To use that fourth idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your children and have them take a guess at the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that’s soft but which isn’t a kitten, they might guess that it’s a cotton ball, a marshmallow or a bunny.

If they don’t guess that a pillow is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess now that they have extra information. Keep doing this until they either guess that the answer is a pillow or they run out of clues.

This is something that is soft
Which you can find inside your home
It is where you lay your head
And contains feathers, down or foam

~

I’m something in your bedroom
You can find inside a case
I’m used by you every night
As it’s where you rest your face

~

When it is late at night
And off to bed you go
The place you lay your head
That’s soft is a _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m soft but I’m not a kitten
I’m usually rectangular but I’m not a loaf of bread
I have a case but I’m not a detective
I sometimes have feathers but I’m not a bird
I’m found beneath a head but I’m not a scarf

Bedroom Riddles

June 23, 2016 By Stephen Pepper

Our series of riddles for kids about things that can be found around the house continues today with five where the answer is a bedroom. These are therefore ideal for using with all of our other room riddles.

The first four of these are rhyming riddles, with the word ‘bedroom’ completing the rhyme of the fourth riddle.

The fifth of these asks your children What Am I? To use that one, read the first line to your children and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that’s used at night but which isn’t a flashlight, they might guess that it’s a pillow, earplugs or a toothbrush.

If they don’t guess that a bedroom is the answer, read them the clue on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that the answer is a bedroom or they run out of clues.

Bedroom Riddles For Kids

This is somewhere in the house
Where most of your clothes you keep
You go in here every night
When it’s time to go to sleep

~

I’m an area of the house
Which is where every night you go
As it is where you go to sleep
And rest your head on a pillow

~

Every house has at least one
Of that you can be quite certain
Because it is where you sleep
It often has a dark curtain

~

You spend hours in this every day
But it isn’t a school classroom
Instead it is where you go to sleep
Which means that it is your _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I’m used most at night but I’m not a flashlight
I contain sheets but I’m not a binder
I have a door but I’m not a closet
I have a bed but I’m not a garden
I’m an area of the house but I’m not a kitchen
