Lighthouse Riddles

January 22, 2015 By Stephen Pepper

Today we have some riddles for kids where the answer is ‘Lighthouse’.

These are therefore great for using with all of our other sailing riddles, or if you’re wanting your children to answer clues about different types of buildings.

The first two of these rhyme, while the third idea is a What Am I riddle?

To use the final option, your child should read the first line and guess what they think the answer is. If they’re incorrect, they should read the second line and guess again. They should keep going until they either get the right answer or they run out of clues.

We need to warn sailors
When there are rocks close by
So we build this building
That shines out from up high

~

I am a type of building
And from the top I shine
I warn sailors about rocks
So that ships will be fine

~

What Am I?

I’m tall but I’m not a basketball player
I’m thin but I’m not a flagpole
I shine but I’m not the sun
I help sailors but I’m not an anchor
I’m a building but I’m not a skyscraper

If you want to be a pirate
You will need this without fail
So that you can travel around
You need something you can sail

~

You will need this type of transport
To be able to leave a port
You can then float upon the water
And cast nets for fish to be caught

~

What Am I?

I have a deck but no backyard
I have a bow but no arrows
I have a wheel but I’m not a car
I have a beam but I’m not a light
I have a stern but I’m not serious
I have a crow’s nest but there are no birds

5 Compass Riddles For Kids

Compass Riddles For Kids

If you’re sailing on a pirate ship
To find your way you’ll need at least
This item that will help guide the way
By pointing north, south, west and east

~

You can navigate by the sun and stars
But there’s another way that’s the best
An item that uses magnetic fields
To point which way is north, south, east and west

~

If you’re lost in the middle of nowhere
Then firstly make sure your eyes are peeled
And hope your backpack contains this item
That guides using the Earth’s magnetic field

~

If you get lost somewhere
There’s no need to raise a rumpus
First of all, just stay calm
And pull out your trusty _ _ _ _ _ _ _

~

What Am I?

I have a magnet but I don’t stick to metal
I have a needle but I can’t sew
I sometimes have scales but I can’t weigh anything
I help you find your way but I’m not a map
I have N E W S on me but I’m not a TV

Is sure to give people a fright
It has parts of a skeleton
On a background as dark as night

At the top of a pirate ship
It has a skull and crossbones on it
In case you needed a tip

Is that an island in the distance
Or other pirates coming your way?
Just look through this handheld telescope
And then you’ll be able to say

~

To know what’s on the horizon
You can use this to see what’s there
Look through the lens and find out if
There are rocks of which to be aware
