Microwave Riddles

For the last few weeks, we’ve been publishing a series of riddles for kids which are all household items. The last few of these have been items you can find in the kitchen.

Today’s collection is no exception as the answer to all of these is a microwave, meaning they can also be used with our other appliance riddles.

The first five of these are rhyming riddles, while the sixth asks your children What Am I?

To use that sixth idea, read the clue that’s on the first line to your kids and have them guess the answer. As the clue is that it’s something that has a door but isn’t a cupboard, they might guess that it’s a car, a bedroom or an advent calendar.

If they don’t guess that a microwave is the answer, read them the second clue and have them take another guess. Keep doing this until they either guess correctly that the answer is a microwave or they run out of clues.

This is something in the kitchen
Which can cook food on demand
What it’s called sounds similar to
A small movement of a hand

~

When you’re feeling hungry
And you need something to eat
If your food has gone cold
You can use this to reheat

~

I rotate but I’m not the Earth
As it orbits round the sun
Instead I’m used to heat up food
And I beep when I am done

~

I am used for cooking food
But not for it to be fried
I am a type of oven
But I don’t get hot inside

~

If you get home late from practice
This appliance is a winner
As instead of having cold food
This thing can reheat your dinner

~

What Am I?

I have a door but I’m not a cupboard
I have buttons but I’m not an elevator
I beep but I’m not a car
I’m found in your kitchen but I’m not a dishwasher
I can cook things but I’m not a saucepan

Washing Machine Riddles

Our series of household item riddles continues today with another item that can often be found in a kitchen, as today’s set all have a washing machine as their answer.

The first five of these rhyme, with the words ‘washing machine’ completing the rhyme of the fifth one.

The sixth idea is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your kids and ask them to guess the answer. The clue is that it gets filled with water but isn’t a drinking glass, so your children might try guessing that it’s a bathtub, a sink or a rain barrel.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a washing machine, read them the clue that’s on the second line and have them take another guess now that they have some further information. Keep going until they either guess correctly that it’s a washing machine or they run out of clues.

Then you will need to make use of this
If you go to a laundromat
You’ll see lots of these appliances

~

I am something you can find in your house

Before going in a tumble dryer
You would usually first put them in me

Then you put them in this to get clean

I clean things but I’m not a janitor
I’m a household appliance but I’m not a dishwasher
I have clothes put in me but I’m not a closet

Freezer Riddles

Our series of both household item and kitchen riddles for kids continues today with seven that all have a freezer as the answer.

The first six of these rhyme, with the word ‘freezer’ completing the rhyme of the sixth riddle.

The seventh is a What Am I riddle. To use that one, read the first line to your children and ask them to guess the answer.

As the clue is that it sometimes contains ice but isn’t something you drink, they might guess that it’s a lake in the winter, an ice rink or something else.

If they don’t guess that the answer is a freezer, read them the second clue and ask them to take another guess now that they have some additional information. Keep doing this until they either guess that a freezer is the answer or they run out of clues.

Pizza, peas as well as ice
